Re: Heat Line caused by silicone wrap?

Post by MattMose »

Hi all,

Recently switched to using a halogen oven on the recommendation of webtrekker and others. Everything's going wonderfully, except a big yellow line running the length of the mug seemingly where the metal clamp is touching the mug (through the silicone)...

Anyone have any experience with this? At first I thought it was the heat tape (which I've tried different varieties of just to be sure), however it goes almost top to bottom. It's hard to get a picture as it can be very feint, but now I know it's there it's all I see.

I'm wondering if the metal clamp is causing intense heating of the mug on that particular area causing the yellowing?

It's a fine line between cooking the image enough and not getting the yellow line. I've tried a piece of paper between the wrap and the sub paper and it seemed to work, but that was the last one I cooked. I don't know if this is something I'm going to have to continue to do from here on.

As always, advice appreciated.

I used a piece of teflon sheet, cut slightly larger than the silicone wrap, placed between the transfer and the inside of the silicone wrap and that seems to do the job.

Didn't think to use teflon but I've got a spare sheet kicking about so that'll do perfect. Is this a known issue with the hot metal of the wraps then?
