Tiny Specks of dark ink on sublimation transfers. Dots problem
Re: Tiny Specks of dark ink on sublimation transfers. Dots problem
I use Epsom workforce printer
sublimation inks.
keep getting these dots every now and then;
ruins t-shirts.
they are often too small to notice on my transfers.
Often their undesired effects can be seen after printing, ruining stock.
If I notice them, I try to remove them with a scalpel or lint roller.
this hampers workflow .

Advice please

These are from pinch rollers or the pizza wheels.
have you selected high speed printing in the settings?
if so turn it off to give the ink a chance to dry a little before it hits the rollers.
there are a few threads about this do a quick search as there are a lot of useful solutions too.

Hi. If the specks are due to dust or fibres then a lint roller should help (assuming you are printing to garments).Gemmacue;144392 wrote:Hi hope your well, Did you ever get a solution to this problem? I am having a nightmare at the moment with it...
Thank you
However, if the specks are persistent, or appear when printing to hard surfaces, such as mugs and coasters, then you need to look at your print with a high-power magnifier (I use a 40x mag jewellers loupe from ebay) before pressing. Specks that can't be seen with the naked eye often ruin a product when pressed.
If you discover tiny stray dots on your printouts then these may be due to ink spatters from the printhead, ink pickup from the paper feed rollers, or stray pixels in your design. To check your design, zoom right in to pixel level in Photoshop (or whatever) and look for single stray pixels. If the design is a transparent PNG, select it and make sure the selection box touches the edges of your design. If it is outside of the perimeter of your design then there are stray pixels that are being picked up when selecting. Erase them and try again.
Re: Tiny Specks of dark ink on sublimation transfers. Dots problem
Thank you so much, I lint roll everything and even more so since this started happening so I am sure that is not it...and yeah they are on hard and soft surfaces. I will have to get a magnifier because they definitely don't show on the print with my eyesight. Reading this however I do print on high speed so I might like you say have miniscule dots of ink and also possibly off the rollers (i didn't think of this because I don't see the normal "pizza marks"). Because this morning I used a spare bit of sublimation paper to cover a white bit on a mouse mat and had some dots...the paper had not been printed on but had gone through the rollers on the printers...
I will give the rollers a clean and print on a lower speed and hopefully stops it. Thank you so much for you suggestions and help

Also I will do that stray pixel thing too because I have messed with my templates a lot so that's a good idea, Thank you

Re: Tiny Specks of dark ink on sublimation transfers. Dots problem
You're welcome.
I don't know which printer you use, but I print with Ricoh SG3110DN's and don't use the fast paper feed setting. My printers are set to high quality, plain paper.

I use the Epson SCF500 on max speed, finest detail and max quality it never crossed my mind that could be overkill... I am new to this and just though the more the better lol bluming newbie mentality...
