I have Coralgraph mugs that have been through 100s of washes with no problem at all - They don't fade.

Jumping in this discussion late on I appreciate, the original question about finding good quality mugs and how the quality from Listawood seems to be dropping. I would like to ask if any of the members use Bone China mugs and in particular the straight sided (can Style from Listawood). My last couple of batches have not been straight sided with top dia and bottom differing by 3+ mm. Not great for full sized images ok for text only. Does anyone use this style of mug from any other supplier. Looking at Dye Sublimation Supplies and the very helpful person there measured one of their 'Birmingham' fine China mugs and it was the same top & bottom so tempted to try them.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Xpres mugs are okay, Coralgraph mugs are okay on all their versions, Signzworld I have found okay on their better mugs (haven't tried their budget version). There is no perfect mug out there and you have to adapt to all of them whether it be print/time/temp/pressure. Not sure what people are trying to achieve with the perfect mug search as I can get a great printed product with all of the above. Take a look at some of the trash sold in HMV as many of the mugs there would be classed as rejects for us yet they sell regardless.

As for testing, I remember a few years back getting test certificates from Xpres and their mugs were confirmed to have past the dishwasher test for 1 cycle. They have made more effort these days but were slow to the game with pushing them boundaries. Would also assume both Xpres and Coralgraph get their mugs from the same factory and appear to be quite similar in fairness.


[MENTION=8145]johna1954[/MENTION] Birmingham mugs are great and probably gone through a few thousand this last year. China always has a slightly muted finish but worthwhile if you have the customer base.

Thank you for your input. In regards to coralgraph and xpres mugs being the same, this is exactly the point I made above myself, but for some reason I received a negative response.
I've tried all the mugs from the same suppliers as you've mentioned, I like singzworld mugs but they seem to be quite a lot of mugs per batch with pinholes in or around the handles
Listawood the batch I received quite a few where broken and some had inclusions.
I really rate the coralgraph mugs for quality and price.

Every supplier has ups and downs with supply of their product as they are just stuck in the middle and not in control of manufacture so wouldn't totally right off someone like Listawood. I was trying Xpres mugs a few years back and their mugs were awful and at the time the worst on the market for me. It might have just been a few months like that as they are good again now and more than happy to use them although I don't use the 5013 version. Orca mugs are often very good but supply can vary from supplier as they will put their coatings on the standard of mug that is requested. In general mugs are better now than they were a few years back and less colour variations across supplier which was a big pain. Many will tell you since Tams went bust mugs have never been the same since but I think there are some rose tinted glasses on that one. I found a box in my warehouse years after they went through and was surprised that they weren't actually that great. Most consistent supply at a very good level I have had over recent years was Orca 10oz brought in by Neil Bros. When Dino mugs came to the market at a very good price for the quality I couldn't fault them much either.

As you can tell from this thread though, there are many different opinions. Key is to try and find a mug that works for you and stick with them for a while so you get time to tweak your method and adapt to it's properties. Very few printers need 100% perfection but get easily hung up on this. Over studying a print and mug for flaws isn't needed most of the time as the customer wouldn't know what you were on about if you talked about depth of black or even a pin prick by the handle. They look at the overall mug rather than study very small detail. It is more often than not a hang up for the printer. Perfection is rarely required but printers think it is. Study various items across retail sectors and you will realise items by hand are rarely perfect.

Argh, TAMS, great days! Lol. I did have a conversation about trying to bring them back a while ago, closest thing to a perfect mug, no need for anything else.

It isn't actually.

I've just been through the ordering process and once a VAT number is entered then VAT magically appears, even though there is no mention of VAT elsewhere.

Oddly it looks like you can check out without VAT if you don't enter a number and, even if you do, VAT is not applied to the delivery charge which I believe it should be.

I've never had VAT added before.. I can only comment on my experience.
