Cutting edible rice paper with ce6000 problems.

I have an edible printer setup for cakes and such but can not get the graphtec to find the reg marks.

im using type 1 reg marks which is working fine for everything else I have ever cut but not on rice papers (wafer papers)
has anyone ever used a ce6000 or other machine to cut rice paper with success?

fyi same design on plain papers is cutting fine it’s almost as if the paper is blurring the reg marks enough to be undetectable although they look fine by eye.

(using a new light tack mat and placing the paper onto that.)
it’s the same with icing sheets.
i was hoping not to have to spend another £300 on a cricut machine just for the odd few sheets.

Would the 'hinge method' work here? I've used it successfully for tricky jobs in the past with my Silver Bullet cutter -

The graphtec will just keep searching for the regmarks once the original cut has been done
it can recut the same cut pattern but it will recut using the regmarks.

im thinking of adding a layer of plain paper over the top of the wafer paper but that’s two lots of ink and paper each time. That may get expensive when doing 40 sheets at a time.

I have searched but everyone making wafers are using cricut machines.
Are the regmark sensors superior on these compared to graphtec.??

That's the trouble with cutters with ARMS (Automatic Registration Mark Systems). My Silver Bullet has a red laser dot that I can accurately line up on any reg marks, no matter what material they are printed on.

The only other thing I can suggest (from my Cameo 2 days) is to stick small white labels/stickers (from a roll of labels) where the reg marks are going to be printed and they will be printed on the stickers instead of the rice paper, resulting in a much sharper print. I know it sounds a pain but it's quite a quick process and better than wasting A4 sheets and ink.

That sir is a bloody good idea I may just have to try that!

It's definitely worth trying. It allowed me to print & cut patterned card, where the permanent pattern on the card interfered with the optical reg mark detector of my Cameo 2. This was also one of the main reasons I ditched the Cameo and upgraded to a machine that didn't rely on an optical detector.

Well that worked.
it’s not an ideal situation but it’s better than nothing at all and at least I can get some samples done.

No worries. As you say, it's not ideal, but as long as it gets the job done that's the main thing.
