Hi Quinsfan,

I think the filling in of forms is to make sure that all is genuine with names/businesses on their system before they release funding. There are number of sections to fill in including company number, VAT number, account number and sort code so that they can, if successful, process to the correct payee.

I hope so but at the moment my council aren’t even taking phone calls. Just a call centre saying that there is no body to take calls and you must email yet the email states that they will get back to you in 10 days! Not even a direct email for the department just a generic one. Not happy and the town hall is closed.

Pretty sure you have seen it, but if not, your local council has an online form to complete.

Apparently payments are being made on or around the 12 April. This is pure hearsay so do not quote me on it but keep your fingers crossed...

It turns out that the application form required is the same as the application form for small business rates relief which was announced in the Budget on the 11th of March. All they have done is added this Coronavirus Grant to this part of their website and not actually let anyone know. Have now completed it and will wait to see what happens.

Ironically we will be taxed on grants and furlough payments as all going to be classed as income.

That’s because they are :-)

Furlough is to replace your wages so should be taxed in the normal way, these grants are there to replace business income so would presumably be taxed in the same way also, although HMRC hasn’t released exactly how any of this will operate yet. Bear in mind that for a lot of businesses £10k is naff all considering how long it will have to last meaning your tax liability would reduce in time.

The best one for me so far is the VAT deferring. It’s interest free and I think is a year. So I can bank the VAT into a savings account and then pay it later. However 0.25% doesn’t exactly float my boat for the hassle involved :-)

One thing is for sure, taxes are all going to shoot up when this is over as “we” will all need to pay it back.

According to the Govt. website all councils have now received the money to pay out.

Dorset Council still haven't sent out the forms, and there is no form on their website.
