slot punching in chromalux

Hi All

I need to punch rectangular, or obround to be strictly accurate, holes into chromaluxe business cards so they could be worn ID badge style clipped onto clothing, without risk of damaging said clothing, ie no badge type pin clips being used. The slot would be something like 2 or 3mm by 10 or 12 mm - big enough for one of the clips shown below to go through


I remember seeing a hand punch that would do this very job some years ago but now have no idea where that was!

Any suggestions?

I could use a stick on clip but I would still need to punch a hole as my client wants to hang another business card from the bottom of the first - ie the first one clips on to clothing and says "Grumpy Old Gits Club of Great Britain" and then the second one, hanging from the first (and interchangeable) might say "contestant number 123" or "Under 60's class". They want to be able to use the upper badge with multiple lower badges. I think that gives you the idea!

Sublimetals can punch holes in their thin metal.

Sublimetals had a couple of possible solutions but the unit price by the time all the bits and pieces were added on th cost was more than the job could withstand.

I don't think that Chromaluxe's coating is up to punching holes through it. It chips very badly around the edge when cut.

The only thing I can think of is lanyards which fit standard sublimation business cards.

Is this for a small, one-off job? I'm thinking you could use a router or a Dremel and a makeshift jig to mill slots, but probably not worth the effort for a single job.

I would think the best way to do this is to print your ID cards and then encapsulate them and then hole punch using a special hole punch. I have the one pictured which is probably what you need, however I doubt this would punch metal.
