Re: My Online Product Renderer (W.I.P.) ...

I have one of our members to thank for diverting my attentions to this new project.

I know Paul has his amazing Mug Animator software, and I also know that sites with great product mockup generators exist, not to mention the freely available Fancy Product designer. However, I wanted to develop something that was of more use to designers/printers than customers.

To this end, I have started developing a Javascript web app that runs in a browser and uses webGL to render 3D models with PNG designs which can be uploaded by the designer. It's more to give a 3D visualisation of the final product, but I'll eventually make it suitable for taking still shots as well, to be used for mockup images etc.

Please understand that this is in a VERY early stage of development! So far, I have managed to load a 3D Durham mug object, texture it with a wrap image, and render it in the browser with a constant rotaion added. The model is very basic and only flat-shading has been applied, so it looks a bit blocky at the moment. All of that will change once I begin adding shaders and setting the lighting up correctly.

So, here it is ...[User Deleted]

I haven't cross-browser tested anything yet, but it should work in most modern browsers as they all support webGL.

Thanks logo. That's my main browser too! I use LambdaTest though for cross-browser testing on different devices, OS's, and browsers, so eventually I'll get around to giving it a thorough test to see if it works on most mobiles and tablets, as well as desktops. It seems to be doing well at the moment, and resizes when the browser is resized. Another good thing is that the rendering pauses when you switch to another tab, which alleviates any cpu overloads etc. when you are doing other things.

Looks great in Chrome and latest Firefox. Designer uploads mug design on web, then downloads a still image all without Photoshop is a great asset!

Thanks guys, that's all valuable information.

The finished version will have slider controls to set the orientation if anyone wants a particular view. Also, I want to add soft shadows and make them easy to toggle on and off.

It's worth noting that the page can be viewed in any website simply by adding an iframe to your HTML.

Best of all ............. the whole thing will be FREE!

It looks cool.
It would be good to be able to download a video of the rotation.

What a nice designer you are working on. Looks great on Firefox. Keep up the good work and I am really interested to see how the project will develop itself. Perhaps a competition to the fancy product designer?
