Re: Mug Base Stamp (Revisited)

Post by AJG »

Hi !
So I have search the forum of posts relating to this subject and I have read all  ( fun Boxing Day)

I have tried hand stamping but the outcome is too inconsistent (smudged / faint etc)
I’ve tried water slide but again looks a bit tacky (a square cut out sticker really does not do
anything for branding)

Ive read about vinyl being the best solution. Does anyone have a link to anyone who produces
these specifically for mug bases. As a quick google search brings up a lot of vinyls that I’m not sure
would be suitable, so a little advice from experience would be really appreciated.

You may have read my posts about printing on to the base. Mixed results but with a bit more practice I know it could be pretty much perfected.

Coating the base is the toughest but by hand, getting an even coat. You then have to bake the base but can apply the image at the same time if using an oven, the base print then has to be pressed separately.

I will experiment with vinyl as well when I get a chance.

Come the new year (and back from sunny Florida!) then we will be experimenting with a new technology that could be used for base printing. We are waiting on delivery of parts. Watch this space....between my ears...

I use vinyle stickers on my mugs which are about 10mm in diameter and work perfect, and stay on after dishwasher which I have tested 30 times on same mug

Most of the replies I read were from yourself Justin. I’m going to order some vinyl stickers as it’s less heartache than handstamping.

I use to order mugs in and pay 50p per mug for back stamp. It looked great and wasn’t a sticker. So they have obviously cracked it on a high turn over.

Thanks again.
