Re: Dishwasher & microwave-safe Mugs?

Post by Tony4415 »

Hi Guys
When I purchase mugs from a reputable supplier and their mugs say, 'Dishwasher & microwave-safe Mugs'

What does this actually mean?

I have seen some of my mugs, given to family and friends, faded.

I have a SG800 Sawgrass Printer using the sawgrass inks, paper.

So why is this happening?

or do I tell people to preserve the print do not put in Dishwasher or microwave?

Any feedback would be great.
Thanks

Mugs are 11oz two tone coloured (inner only)
their info says:

  • Tried and tested for both photo images as well as text
  • 100% dishwasher proof
So why is this happening?

Some mugs are definitely better than others. I personally find express to be the best and they are consistently so. Had issues with some batches in the past. Also, make sure you've pressed the long and hot enough for the colours to permeate the coating. If not, you may end up with mostly a "surface" image

The suppliers are being very vague in their description. Yes, the mugs will take an image and text, and yes, they will withstand dishwashing, but what they DON'T say is that repeated dishwashing will fade the images.

Personally, I use (or did use... I've given up on mugs now) Listawood mugs which I can assure you don't fade, even after years of microwaving and dishwashing. The only slight issue I had with them is that some became stained inside when used for tea (but I should also add that I take my tea black).

The mugs with Orca are semi safe but I find the ones marked DURAGLAZE will wash and wash without any fading. https://www.printequipment.de/en/cerami ... 10oz-dura/

I've used all different suppliers for mugs to try and resolve this, and I can't.

Depends on the design colours (as to how noticeable) but one company I supply have a solid black logo and after about 6 months the logo starts to fade to grey. This is using the dishwasher daily (6 days a week) and on a really really hot setting.

I now say they are dishwasher and microwave safe to an extent. As images may fade with excessive heat from a dishwasher.

Use Listawood's Duraglaze mugs. They guarantee the print and as someone who has printed mugs for various industrial environments I can also back their claim up. Drop them a line and they will probably send you a couple of samples.

P.S. All mugs will be microwave safe, unless you put a metallic print on there.

Thanks guys for your advise.
I have called Listawood yesterday and they were very helpful and are sending me some samples to try out the duraglaze AAA versions. They are very generous with their samples!

What winds me up is that other companies have said their mugs are print safe etc but actually they are not! So actually my mugs fade! Which gives my business a bad name! Also I have spent up to a thousand pounds on mugs over the years. I only noticed the fading when I went to visit an old friend and the mug I made looked really bad! So I stopped making them!

I had a minor heart attack and was extremely embarrassed when I discovered that the 10,000s of premium dishwasher safe mugs that I had sent out were being destroyed in dishwashers after a few month's use. I now use Listawood mugs as I doubt that there is anything better.
