Re: True pix paper sticking to surface

Post by milo »

I'm new to sublimation. My problem is when i'm trying to peel off the sublimation paper in some places it's sticked to the surface and when scraped away it leaves nasty marks. I'm pressing on white coated metal sheets.

Setup: True pix paper, 190degC, 80sec, medium pressure, peeling paper off while warm.

I'm using adkins heatpress without pressure indication ... have anybody some simple tips how to adjust pressure high/medium/low?

Silly question  ... i'm printing on the brighter side of paper, is that right?

Thanks

This might seem like a silly question, but, have you taken the protective coating off of the metal sheets before you put the paper on to press them?

Made that mistake with some placemats a while back :(

And I can't remember what side of the paper you print on, and the printers up 2 flights of stairs, and I'm being lazy tonight, lol

Just to save your legs, Trupix has a bright white side to print on as opposed to the dull side :)

Yes i have taken the protective coating off ... i suspect wrong pressure setting but don't know how to properly set high/medium/low setting on adkins press. Anybody using Adkins heat press?

Don't forget to press with the metal to the platten & the transfer paper to the base as you put the heat through the metal not the transfer. Hope you understand this.

Thanks ... good point I'm pressing contrariwise. But what in case i need print both sides? Should i press both sides at once or separately? Doesn't the second pressing affect the already printed side?

You should be able to print both sides at the same time. I've never tried it but there was a thread on here a little time ago & should be still there. I'd have look it up but I think I press at 190 degrees for around 50 sec when pressing onto metal sheet. It'll be in my little book somewhere.

Thank you ... I'll try shorter pressing ... maybe the paper is burned to the surface. Any tips on pressure settings on adkins presses?

The coating on the metal heats quicker than mugs and is often slightly softer. Silver is often worst than white on recent batches I have used. 50 secs press at 185c should probably do the job but you should never need to go over 60 secs. The sticking part is the fibres of the paper bonding to the sublimation coating which is starting to melt. You probably then get the white markings that are left behind. Basically too much heat is added.

For printing 2 sided you would need the double sided metal which is very rare these days.
