Use for mistake mugs
Re: Use for mistake mugs
Hi, I'm new to the group and a newbie to sublimation. I've been selling mugs online for a few months. I've had quite a learning curve so I have a few mugs that are total failures and a few that just didn't come out well due to bleeds. I found the answer to solve that issue on this forum, thank you!
Has anyone found a way to use those mistake mugs? Can you re-sub over them with a darker design?
TIA,
Teresa

It would make sense to donate them to charity, schools or a care home rather than to throw them, even if they are only used once, but there are pitfalls.
If you are printing someone elses design there is a limit to what you can do with them for copyright reasons. If you are printing your own designs do you want a load of seconds out there?

Re: Use for mistake mugs
We once donated a load of plates etc. to the local school. Never forget my wife's face when she saw them being used on a stall at the school fair...... As target practice! We thought they were going to sell them not smash them! Haha.
Maybe donate your mugs to the school

We tend to use the "White spaces" around the design for colour lesting. Some quite pleasing psychedelic art can result! Then my wife smahes them up for "crocks" in flower pots.

Re: Use for mistake mugs
A long as they are only say a little off centre or something I sell mine on eBay with 100% going to cancer research.
anything more than that I either bin them or use them to stand the hot mugs on after pressing. A hot mug cools faster on the top of a cold mug

We give them to people getting married. Its called a Polterabend where the need to smash Porcelain to bring them luck. Usually onto a patio or terrace so it can be swept up afterwards.

Re: Use for mistake mugs
Since starting I have only done 4 errors so not enough to give away to homeless shelters.
i don’t have problems with mugs really, I have always found it pretty straightforward so the only issue I find is making sure the image is straight on the mug before pressing.
