Re: Vinyl Pimpling and Crumpling after wash - Please advise!!!

Post by juggysingh »

Hi All, I have had some issues recently with some heat transfers I have used after they where washed (although I did wash the garment to the advised guidelines for both Vinyl types, under 40 degrees and no tumble dry), please see attached pics.

-The Gold Vinyl seems to have crumpled in and around the letters
-The White Vinyl is showing 'pimpling' in the transfer

Can anyone advise how the above issues may have happened please?

Did you manage to get samples from other suppliers as discussed? I think you'd find the comparisons very interesting.

Did you stretch the garment over the platten when you pressed it?
Ideally, should be under no stretch at all so it doesn't want to shrink back.

What have the suppliers said about this? personally I think it's down to the material not the shirt.

I can only speak of the Dae Ha, and to me it looks as if you have not pressed it firmly enough, the stretch metallic almost goes into the material, so it moves with it, this looks as if it is still laid on the top. You are lucky they have an excellent customer service team, so I will be interested to read what their reply is to you.

Hi All, thanks for the replies;

logobear - As far as Im aware I was very careful to ensure the fabric was not stretched, as the press I use allows for garments to be slide under and over

Justin - I suspect you are right in thinking it could be down to the fabric, as this was a cheap Fruit of the Loom t-shirt. However, for future ref, what should i check for when purchasing t-shirts to ensure minimal shrinkage, is there such as thing as pre-shrunk or pre-washed garments available, or should i be looking for other qualities in the garment?

mrs maggot - I did have some issues pressing the Gold Vinyl and suspect you are right in relation to not applying enough pressure. I also visited Dae Ha at their stand at the Print Show and showed them the t-shirt, however they where not 100% sure what the issue was but gave me another sheet of Gold Vinyl to try again. Im just waiting to order an appropriate new t-shirt then will reply with my findings. Im looking at Bella Canvas 3001 as it seems to be good quality and price.

Thanks again to ALL for your valued feedback!

No, I'm not saying it's the shirt I think it's the vinyl. When you showed it me we discussed how it appeared to be sat on top of the shirt. Yes, this 'could' be the garment but I find it unlikely. I've never seen this issue with any of the vinyls I've used and I've put them onto all makes and quality of shirts.

I will try another pressing; taking into consideration all the points suggested (stretched garment, low pressure etc) and then update with my findings. Thanks ALL again for your feedback!
