Blacks not black enough,

Hi again guys, yet again my blacks have gone more brown, than black, it looks dark brown when its printed out on the paper ( not sure if it should be jet black or not), I’ve not really changed anything (I did change the pressure because I had to do a 10oz mug), but it’s quite a block of black as opposed to text, I’m not sure if it’s the pre heat (I’m using 150c) cooking temp (185c) time (135 seconds) or the pressure, I’d say I’m using medium pressure ( that’s the hardest to gauge as there is no actual number/counter). The paper when I remove it from the mug is scorched brown in places.

I’m using Ricoh 3110, subliplash inks, Galaxy Pro GS203, subliflex pre cut paper, subliblanks 11oz Durham AAA! Mugs.

No problem with blacks looking dark brown on the paper, but it seems your temperature is too high. Try around 170 degrees. Maybe your press is running hotter than displayed too.

I would suggest an Idle temp of 175 and a cooking temp of 180 for 180 seconds.

Blacks are the most difficult to get right so good luck

Thanks for this, hadn’t thought about running hotter, I have a temp gun I can test it with thanks, I’ll give it a go.

i found this out early on,I thought I had it mastered, but no....I think as it’s such a big block of black it looks so bad. I will try your suggestion and post the results. Cheers

If you are trying to sublimate large black areas I would recommend using a high release paper such as TexPrint XPHR or our Subli-TEXTILE HR paper. Generally regular sub paper will perform well on your run of the mill designs but large blocks of black can be tricky without a HR paper to release more ink.
