I printed a batch of coasters for a retail customer back in August. I'm certain that they printed perfectly, but she is complaining that the colours are bleeding. They look as if they've been over pressed.

Is there any reason why they would bleed once cooled?

Maybe their cup of tea was incredibly hot and re-started the sublimation process!

I have some coasters that have also become blurred but they were printed many years ago.

These were unused, I thought that maybe they had been stored in direct sunlight. I'll see them all tomorrow.

Well, I had a good look at the coasters. These coasters are a mess with bleeding colours and strange cracks filled up with ink. They certainly didn't come out of the press like that and the issue has happened weeks after giving them to the customer.

Have I pressed too hard and damaged the coating? All the coasters are from the same batch and the majority of the coasters still look fine. I will repress them and see what happens.

Have to say this really is a first, have you spoken to the supplier? Very strange indeed.

No, these coasters haven't reached the end customer yet, I did a wholesale job for a retailer, so unused.

We print/order coasters every month and use the 90mm square Xpres ones, so if they were them I would think we have had some from the same batch. Not had any issue's so far and not seen a problem like that previously. Other than all stored in a very hot glass fronted window area, can't think of many other reasons to have done this. Were they individually bagged for retail? That is the only other possible one I can think of which can fast track bleeding.
