Re: Mug problems (black faded/burnt?)

I'm trying to get to grips with my Freesub Dual Mug press and having a constant issue with anything black looking faded - I can't work out if it's burnt, i.e. been in too hot/too long or not long enough? Photo attached. When I peel the paper off after it looks like all the black is still stuck to the paper.

I'm using 180 temp for 180 secs as advised in YouTube videos about this press, although I'm slightly confused about the resting temperature and when exactly I'm meant to put the mug in? Because it takes a lot longer than 180 secs for the countdown to go down and the press to start beeping that it's done.

I'm using a Sawgrass printer and inks.

Can I ask what paper you are using?

I had this same problem a few years ago. Mine was caused by wrong printer settings. Every now and then it used to wipe my printer settings and I had to re input the settings. Every other appeared dull.
Check your printer settings.
Off the top of my head should be something like :
Paper type = glossy
Economy colour =off
Print Quality = Quality Priority
Colour Profile must be off.

I'm sure someone can go through the exact settings for your printer. mine is a Ricoh

I have the same press as you are using, I use trupix paper, I heat the base up for a few minutes, I don't bother with the rest of the mug, I'll then wrap it and bang it in the press, it will usually drop to about 150c then heat up again which takes a minute or so, all in all its in there for about 4-5 minutes and i've never had a mug go wrong.

Also is your pressure right up, i've found that i've had to adjust it to its fullest using both 11oz and 10oz mugs ( I can still close my press handle with 1 finger)?

Just a thought though but i've never used that paper so maybe i'm off track a little.

Just put your mug in the press, close it up, temp will drop and just hit the timer, it will count down when it heats back up and hits 180c you'll find that its in there for about 4.30 mins before it's cooked

Make sure you have the right colour profile installed for your printer/paper/ink combo. Your ink supplier should supply you with this.
