Re: Marks left on slate

Post by Triple9 »

Hi All...
Looking for some advice..

When printing slate, I always seem to get marks left on, which I find hard to shift..

I'm using a sawgrass sg800 with SubliJet inks
Pressing at 200degrees for 420seconds ..tried various time from 360-640 seconds
I heat my slate for 2mins..put paper under heat press for 1min as well..then place slate onto paper..and fold outside edges over...hold with tape, then top and bottom edges over as well..plus tape ..like an envelope
Press for 20sec, then cover with teflon sheet for 20sec..then fully press for the time above..

I've wasted a lot of slate, and its becoming a pain in the a$$.
Any advice / help / guide lines will be appreciated

The paper listed below is what i use..
[h=2]Jet Stream Digital F35 A4 Sublimation Paper &[/h][h=1]A4 Dino DyeSub Sublimation Paper[/h]

To me in looks like the ink is not drying on the paper and releasing too much. We find this can happen with high release papers meant to fabrics and textiles.

I have not used Dino or Jet Stream papers personally, when you print on them can you smudge the ink following printing? If so this would suggest its a high release paper which could be causing the issue.

I would suggest trying a paper more suited for hard substrates such as Trupix Classic.

I always use Trupix on these. When you say you're putting the paper under the press for 2 mins as well, do you mean the silicone sheet and not the transfer? Are you using anything else? A pad for example?

I get these marks even with tropix paper. It's very hit and miss I find with slates.

Ditch the gloss ones and use matt. Perfect finish every time I found.

I found the quality was far better on the matte finish ones I started using over the gloss. Matte looks so much better as well imo.

I get those marks now & again, usually with the slate from cgraph, if it's left a residue i get rid of them with a dishwashing sponge pad & soapy water.
