Re: Oven wraps for enamel mugs?
Hi. Is anyone using an oven for enamel mugs (11oz listawood)? We are having major problems using Adkins mug press with these enamel mugs in that we cannot get consistent results and often get fading at one corner.
We took Listawood advice and tried our vacuum mug oven at 200c for 3 minutes and the result for 95% positive but without a wrap then we noticed slight blurring on some parts of the artwork due to lack of pressure.
So is there a wrap that can be used in an oven as the normal green ones for 10/11oz mugs have the metal parts which are both too big for the handle but also easily chip the enamel.
We did try wrapping heat tape around the whole mug which made better results.
Or - do we bite the bullet and just buy a Genie III press which claims a mug can be done in 40s?
Hmmmmm

Re: Oven wraps for enamel mugs?
We use the Pixmax mug press which seems to give us good results at the suggested 45 seconds on Listawood mugs.

Less than half the price of the press you mention (Pixmax price includes VAT) so might be worth a look. Does 10oz mugs and enamel sizes too.
We don't do many but it works well for us.

Re: Oven wraps for enamel mugs?
I have a Genie III and have done a few enamel mugs and found the results to be excellent.
Not done too many so can't really comment on a bulk run. It might be your blanket just isn't up to the job. With all these type of items you need decent kit because you are very reliant on the edges of the blanket being up to scratch. Not saying you don't have decent kit as I obviously have no idea.
You might also be attempting the impossible. You might be printing too close to the lip. I would say a minimum of 5mm but preferably 8mm from the lip.

Could I ask whether you do full wrap graphics with this press although of course leaving a white gap around the edge? We have four highly colourful full wraps needed for a major retailer and need perfect print all round. Thanks.

Re: Oven wraps for enamel mugs?
I must admit it is surprising that the top end Adkins presses (we have five!) can't do these properly although we are using a very colourful full wrap. We have done hundreds of enamel mugs before so not new to this but this artwork is solid colour all the way round. The oven works a treat though hence the initial question and in theory can do 12 mugs in 3 minutes which is a major bonus!

I am a huge Adkins fan, but not of their mug presses, never thought much of them to be honest as I think they are too restrictive.I must admit it is surprising that the top end Adkins presses (we have five!) can't do these properly although we are using a very colourful full wrap. To print a solid colour 1-2mm from the lip and bleed off the base the only thing to consider is an oven. Its a no brainer and should be relatively easy to solve.

I personally would use shrink wrap film and an oven for this job.
Problem solved
