Re: New Member, been subbing for 2 years....

Post by printingonsea »

Hi all,

I've been subbing for the last 2 years, I converted my Epsom WF 7110 A3 printer with a Ciss system.

I am now thinking of investing in a Sawgrass Virtuoso SG800 A3 Printer

They are a big investment, but I need something reliable and my CISS system just doesn't cut it, I have to run a nozzle clean once a day or it won't work properly and after 3 months out of action since Christmas its not recognising the cartridge and I've tried everything.

What do people think?

Hi Adam and welcome to the forum.

You'll find many threads discussing the different printers. SG800 is a reliable option. If you've had issues with the CIS I can understand you want something with less hassle. I'm personally not a huge fan of the Ricoh printers but appreciate they do the job for most people. It is a big investment yes.

Hi Justin,

What would you recommend? Also do you know anyone who would print off a few sheets of a logo for me, obviously i'm happy to pay them, just till I get the machine sorted

I use a VJ628 for my day to day work but also an Epson 1500W for other work every day. These do use a CIS but are far more reliable than other units. Printer is superb with Inktec inks in and can be bought through Ink Express. Check out our Premium Membership for discounts, Ink Express 'may' be able to offer a small discount on a 1500 but you'd need to check first.

The SG800 is a 'clean' system with the carts but my main reason for not using it is print quality which isn't a patch on the 1500.

Ink Express may be able to help with cheaper ink for the SG800, I know they supply the A4 version.

The 1500W is a great A3 sublimation printer, as Justin says it is not as 'clean' as the SG800 due to it running CISS but print quality is far better. What inks are you using in your WF7110?

We do recommend people printing once a week (just to cover ourselves) but I have personally left a few of my dye sublimation printers for 6 weeks without issue.

All our printers are running Inktec inks which I find do not block the printing heads I have tried other inks and they do block easily, even my own budget inks block much quicker than the Inktec inks so do be careful on what inks you use.
