Among trading card game players this style of playmat has existed for years but MetaMats is fairly new, advertising they're the originators of the full colour cloth playmat. In the past companies like Spellground would make their mats by screenprinting onto the fabric but I'm sure these are being made with dye sublimation. Do you think I'm on the right track? My main problem seems to be finding a suitable material that is similar enough and can be used for sublimation transfers. The video contains close-ups of the material so you can get a good idea of what its supposed to be like.

Try these sublimatable fabrics from The Transfer Press. Maybe the cotton feel or the suede feel might be suitable. Just order a metre of whichever ones you fancy to check them out. They're not expensive.

I think 24x24 for the 2 player ones and looks slightly smaller, maybe 23x13 for the one layer ones.
