What is this mug shape called and can you print on it?
Re: What is this mug shape called and can you print on it?
I'd love to produce designs on this mug shape, but can't find out what it's called so that I can look for blanks to buy.
Also does it need a certain type of press due to the shape?
Any tips really appreciated as I'm a total newbie Thanks

That's an Emma Bridgewater mug - she bought a mug factory and her company employs staff to hand paint them.

Thanks Pisquee. What an operation she has and never realised. I presumed everything was transfer but you're right - all hand painted.

You can't ... I'd guess she has the design protected.

If you Google her factory then you will see they hand craft each mug from clay and they wouldn't be coated for sublimation. Welcome to the world of minimal substrate shapes!

Got to admit though, these are beautifully shaped mugs. There could be a nice opening here for someone with the equipment to make a similar, but not copied, design and add a sublimation coating. I reckon the blanks would fly off the shelves!
Or, have the mugs made by a third party (UK? China? India?) and spray them up yourself.
Don't know about pressing, but these types would certainly be ok in an oven, using a silicon wrap.

You'd need someone like Raja producing in Thailand, or buy them blank from EB's and get them coated ... If they'd be happy to do this though. I have seen other designers hand decorating similar style mugs, so may be.

Pressing would be fine, just the base would hang out the side if the press

Raja UK can produce something fairly similar with a sub coating. Minimum order would be 2000 mugs.
