Hi all! I'm new to this fantastic forum and just about to get started with mug printing!

My research - and budget - strongly suggests that the RICOH SG311ODN is one of the best printers to use. However, having watched a 2014 tutorial on RICOHs and mug printing, the tutor advised that the printer has to be used with a windows computer. Naturally, I have a MAC... I'm reluctant to buy a new, or even second-hand, laptop - can someone just clarify that this is STILL true?

I've looked that up and it says of ICC: "This method requires the graphics software application and OEM driver to be pre-configured before use." I wish I knew what "pre-configured" meant in that context. My graphics have been created already -in ai format. I wish I knew what configuration is needed to print on a 10 or 11 oz mug on a RICOH. I would like the same image on the front and back.

And is ai the right format? I know that high resolution is key but what is the optimum format for printing a medium detail black and white graphic onto 10 or 11 ounce mugs!

I promise that all I have been doing is scouring the internet for information but there are so many contradictions out there!! Any advice gratefully received!

Using an ICC profile is dead easy. Set your graphics software (Ai, Ps, Corel, etc) to manage colours and make sure that it loads the profile.

So, I've bought the BMS starter kit with Ricoh SG3110.

I have a MAC so I have been following the instructions relevant to MACs: https://www.sawgrassink.com/Portal/T...loads-(1).aspx.

I am not having much luck installing the software onto my macbook.

My Mac is OS X El Captian Version 10.11.16.

I downloaded the Ricoh driver without issue, however, when I try to install Java (which is part of the process) I get this message:

"Java for OS X 2014-001 can't be installed on this disk. A newer version of this package is already installed."

I thought this was a GOOD thing - and whatever newer version that is already installed would work.

But when I try to continue on to the next step - installing the SubliJet-R SG3110/SG7100 MacProfile - it says "To open "SGReg" you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime."

Bit of a nightmare. Would be grateful if you anyone could help.

I emailed Martin from BMS yesterday, providing the above info.

COP today I hadn't heard back so I rang Sawgrass using the card provided in the BMS Starter Pack - didn't want to as it's a U.S. number so expensive- but couldn't find any other number on their website.

Chap I spoke to at Sawgrass said there was a U.K. office and I was called back from that number.

I thought I was just being an idiot but the Sawgrass guy hit all the roadblocks i had when trying to install. Fortunately he was very good and sorted the issue by remote access.

All's well that ends well.
