Re: computer displays ink low

Post by SteveUK »

I have now used quite a bit of ink trying to set all of this up and seem (hopefully) to have finally got there. However, when I go to print, the ink cartridges showing on the printer information appear to be nearly empty, when in fact the CIS unit feeding it, has plenty of ink in.

I am wondering if once these ink cartridges show empty on the computer, the printer will give an error about not being able to print because of ink stocks being low. .....Is there a tool I can use to let the computer know that the CIS unit has ink and therefore to show full?

The printer is Epson 1400

Typically, these use auto-reset chips.

The warning you get is the printer's way of telling you that it believes there's only 20% of ink left in the cartridges and so you should buy some in. With a CISS, you don't need to.

When the chips register "empty" they should automatically reset to "full" - the printer may go through a charging cycle when this happens (because it's fooled into thinking you've put a new cartridge in).

In the old days, you had to turn the printer off for awhile before the chips would reset but that isn't necessary anymore. Just keep printing, and the chips will reset by themselves.

This is all presuming you're using a CISS with Auto-reset chips (such as the Easyflows).

Yes these will reset automatically, but if not then there is the reset button to over-ride it. One day when you re-boot/ re-start the cartridges will show full again (like magic :) ).
