Tape & Paper Edge Marks

Hi Everyone,

Just started using the Sawgrass Virtuoso SG800 A3. It's brand new and am using the Magic Touch Subli-Paper.
I'm pressing onto a 100% Polyester Olive Green t-shirt and it's leaving very distinctive marks where the heat resistant tape was that I used to hold the paper still. It has also left a line where the paper was. It hasn't come out after an initial handwash but may try the washing machine as well. I didn't use too much pressure to the best of my knowledge so am looking for a solution as I have a local market for this type of thing.

Can anyone suggest an answer for me please.

In all my years of t-shirt printing, I have never used tape to hold the print in place. Try printing without the tape. If you are worried about the print moving then place a sheet of baking paper or a silicon sheet on top.

looks like you might be burning or overcooking the garments?
some of the die is migrating out of the fabric, the tape is blocking the movement of ink ....
regarding the paper edge marks, use really low pressure, and tear the edges so they are irregular and soft.

Hi and thank you both for replying.
It sounds like a good idea to place the baking sheet on top or the silicone pad. Do you mean the silicon pad that I was given with the printer, it's white and thicker than paper. Will the heat still go through enough to work ?
Also, I am following the temp and time recommendations as set by the Magic Touch paper instructions so does that mean i have scope to lower this temp if you think it is causing any issues with the already subli-dyed green garment.

Pressure is something to test and play with, it'll get to a point where the colour isn't so strong, that's when you've backed off too far. I always use a new sheet of greaseproof each time as in my recent experience with s race paper and white t shirts the ink came through the paper and marked the greaseproof. Might switch papers again. Torn edges helps reduce edge definition but can also look ragged if marking remains. Quit using the tape to eliminate it's marks. Some claim to eradicate marks, personally I've only rarely managed doing that.

I will do some experimenting I think, maybe that's the best way. Ditching the tape seems to be the common thought here so will defo do that.
I guess I'm still in the early stages to find out the quality of the magic touch paper I'm using so may well try some other manufacturers paper as well. Hopefully will get it sorted cos It will be a shame if I don't cos I do have a market for this stuff if I can get it right.
