What is this gadget Paul?
Paul - top bloke!
Re: Paul - top bloke!
I think you'd need to be wary of the license agreement. I'm not sure they'd like the idea of several people sharing the device around. The software requires activation and they say it can only be activated on three machines. I believe that limited might have been lifted, but they make it clear this is to allow one owner to install the software on their own computers. Abuse of that might see them limiting the number of activations again.Justin wrote:If there were enough folk interested we could do a co-op buy and share the cost of one of these gadgets, maybe not an easy thing to sort out but just thinking aloud
Personally, as I've mentioned above, I intend to get one of these as soon as I can. The ability to optimise the profile on an image-by-image basis is going to be invaluable. Because of this, I wouldn't be participating in any co-op buying arrangement unfortunately.
Today demonstrated another plus to this item. Due to still using refills in my B40W (I didn't get a CISS because I thought I might end up throwing it away), I had a little issue today with one of the inks running out without me noticing. It'll take a bit of time to sort, but I'm not worried about that. However, I was part-way through an order which had the same design on a bunch of mugs and a bunch of mousemats. Normally I wouldn't want to switch printers part-way through a job because you can never get a match out of different printers. Heck, I even have trouble getting the same print out of two of the same printer using the same Sawgrass profile!
Anyway, I used the device to profile up my 1400. It took about half-an-hour because I'm getting the hang of it now. Once done, the print from my 1400 looked *identical* to the print from my B40W. You just can't tell that they came from different printers. It's just uncanny. If I'd used the Sawgrass profiles, I'd still be tearing my hair out, tweaking 'til I'm blue in the face, trying to get something in the same ballpark. Paul's gadget and one half-hour had me carrying on with the order and getting it finished with no stress whatsoever.
I just wish I'd known about this years ago. It would have saved me a whole lot to hair-pulling and wasted blanks.
I just can't praise either the gadget or Paul's kindness highly enough. I would never have taken a punt on a device this pricey because you're never sure if it'd work and you don't want to be lumbered with an expensive turkey, do you? But, thanks to Paul, I've had my eyes well and truly opened. I was thinking of updating my monitor profiler next year but now I'll put that money towards this gadget instead.

Looks like Paul has found us a real gem here, I agree, if only we'd known about it years ago!

It's certainly given me a more positive outlook because I know that colour issues will be a thing of the past. I can't tell you how many times I've struggled to get colours right or to find a half-decent greyscale. I do tell my customers that I don't colour match, but you still like to get close don't you?Justin wrote:Looks like Paul has found us a real gem here, I agree, if only we'd known about it years ago!
With this device, I just won't have that hassle again.
(It's getting so that I don't want to let Paul have it back - but don't tell him!
