I've perused the forum and believe the 1500 to be a good choice. Those of you still using it, how is it with the ciss? It's £324 including the inks and will be my first sublimation printer.

just bought another 4 months or so ago...
if its from alex, you cant go wrong...tell him johnny is asking for him lol
he will look after you regarding inks/profiles ect...

just remember to run around 20/30 sheets of plain paper through it 2/3 times a week, to keep the rollers clean,
as i found out with my last 1500w....rollers kept slipping and not picking up sub paper after 13/14 months of very heavy use....was just out or epson warranty as well ;(

Mine has done good service over the last 18 months possibly more! Lasted longer than my rather expensive 7890.

I purchased one recently to have a play.

Gave it quite a bit of abuse of about 2000 prints using a CISS from City Inks Express and Inktec ink from Dye Sub Supplies. Printer performed OK. It needed quite a few head cleans which meant that within two months a replacement printer was needed. To be fair, Epson replaced it straight away, however the first one they replaced it with was damaged (bits of plastic fell out of it!).

I am currently waiting on a second replacement which should be here within a few days.

If this was my only machine I would have ditched it long ago in favour of a more reliable alternative (Ricoh). However it is not and when it worked it worked fine.

Interesting, I have only had Inktec Sublinova through mine and the only cleans have been after a holiday. Not sure there is any connection there regards the ink, possibly just a coincidence. Certainly had a few 1000 prints through it. Could just be I had a lucky one!

Don't think so as we are using exactly the same ink. It could be that I have just been unlucky with it. Out of interest, where did you get your profile from? I have not had one done yet and if I do go down the 1500 route on a more permanent basis I will obviously need a profile.

Have to say, although I am experiencing problems with them at the moment, I have been very impressed with Epson. When the machine first packed up I was pretty angry, fired off an email to Epson Customer Care saying that the machine was two months old etc. etc. They came back to me the next day asking for the serial number which I handed over. They came back to me straight away saying they will send a replacement machine out straight away. I have been a bit unlucky with the replacement in that it is broken, but I am sure it will get sorted.

1500W is very good for the price, I have one myself, but I would recommend using refillable cartridges: less headaches and cheaper !

@socialgiraffe & JMugs: where did you get your profiles for Inktec ink ? I use Sawgrass ArTainium and would like to switch to Inktec. Thanks!

I haven't yet because I have not been that serious in using it and most of what I have printed was either black and white or colour accuracy is not essential. Having said that I will be getting a colour profile from Dye Sublimation Supplies. If you purchase the ink from them they will provide a profile FOC. They are a decent company to deal with so would have no hesitation in recommending them.
