Re: Vinyl onto items with zips!!! :(

Post by carolm1a »

Hi everyone

I'm having one of "those" weeks, nothing I do is right. I'm trying to vinyl on tshirts and also bags with zips. and I just cannot seem to get it right at all, I don't know whether its the pressure on the heat press or whats going on. Sometimes its stuck sometimes not, sometimes half the design, sometimes not - I could cry right now :(

I'm using manufacturers recommended heating and times and having to put it back in 2 or 3 times.

On the bags with zips ive been putting into the heat press with the top of the zip out of the top (nearest me) but it seems like there just isn't enough pressure or something.

Has anyone got any words of wisdom to save my sanity...and my bank balance :(

What heat press are you using? It may have cold spots. What is the vinyl?

The heat press is the same as this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/40-x-50cm-CLA ... 3d3648228b and im using hotflex from mdp

Ive tried placing straight onto the rubber mat with a teflon sheet on top.
Putting a tea towel underneath and teflon sheet

You would need to check the heat press plate for even temperature all across its surface of you've used the correct times and pressures and have these problems, heat sensor guns are around £40 I think and would give you a fair indication

If the vinyl is not adhering to the bag then it is probably either the bag or the vinyl. If sounds like you have tried everything to get the pressure up and while it may not stick perfectly, it would certainly be a lot better than you suggest it is.

So first of all, where did you purchase the bags, are they recommended for garment decoration and in particular vinyl transfer, is the MDP vinyl you are using suitable for the bag material?

I suspect if you used a different vinyl it will work and like anything in this industry it is all about testing and perfecting the process for your individual needs.

Hi

The bags should definitely be okay, they are all over the internet with people using them, they are the westford mills ones. I checked and mdp should work absolutely fine - I have another brand here as well so i'll check and see what that's like. They are a really heavy cotton and it has a bit of a ridge in so I'm not sure what else I can do :( everyone else seems to get theirs fine so its just me thtas a numpty currently LOL

Seem like regular tote bags to me and MDP Hotflex works fine on those. I'd definitely check out the temperature distribution of your heat press.

Another quick point... Are you absolutely sure your press is using degrees Celsius and not Fahrenheit?
