Re: Ricoh SG3110DN white lines problem

Post by nevada »

Hello,

Back again with a new problem!

All of my prints have horrible white streaks across them, very noticeable in blocks of colours.

I cleaned the encoder strip with glass cleaner, lots of black ink came off it so I was very hopeful this had fixed the problem but there was no improvement.

I then did a paper feed and head adjustment as per the conde video on youtube, all settings now providing perfectly straight printouts on the test print patterns.

Streaks still occurring.

I have refilled inks, opened another batch of paper, checked all print settings are the same as they have been for the past 6 months.

Im about to launch it from the window.

Before i do this can someone shed any light?

Im using CityInkExpress Sub ink with CityInk Sub paper.

Thanks for any help

***I have added updates on page 3 of further testing***

Ive reset the printer back to defaults and re-aligned everything again.

im now getting what i can only describe as static patterns, like when there is no tv reception on a channel, really blotchy noise filled prints

nozzle checks printing pattern perfectly

Just printed with the standard ricoh driver and standard colour profile, issue remains the same so definitely a hardware problem.

I took the top lid off again and noticed air in 2 of the lines, could this be my problem? If so how can I prime the lines or bleed them?

Thanks

While I'm no sub expert I don't believe it to be the ink as it's been working fine for months, how would the ink be at fault here?

My nozzle checks are spot on.

Tonight I have dismantled the printer, cleaned the capping station with alcohol and the print heads themselves with alcohol on a cloth.

The only issue I can still see is air in the pipes, I can't work out how to flush them

quite know issue. nozzle check is ok but quality of print is questionable. lot of time with banding. always happen with el cheapo sublimation inks for ricoh.
Unfortunately i dont know solution for your problem. All i know is that one of my printer running sawgrass never had this problem and other ricoh running Chinese inks has.

You can select a deep head clean from the front panel menu, this will use a lot of ink but may clear the air.

Yeah I've done a few head clean from the printer maintenance option already but it doesn't shift the air.

I've left it overnight with alcohol cleaning the print head, will run a nozzle test and alignment this morning and see if it's improved.

If indeed it does turn out to be a problem with non sawgrass inks in a ricoh I'll most likely switch to Epson

I run a Ricoh SG3110DN with CIE inks and have no problems with them. My printer (as well as two of my pc's) is left switched on 24/7.

I agree with Paul, its the ink.

It is irrelevant how long you have been using this ink in this machine and it has no bearing on your current problem. You have purchased ink from a cheap supplier who really could not give a toss about quality, consistency or how well the ink performs. It is all about how cheap they can buy it from the far east. Your best bet is to get different ink from a different supplier, flush the old ink out and put the new ink in.

I would recommend you get Sawgrass and I would also say to flush all the ink out, but seeing as you went with cheap ink in the first instance I doubt there is any point.
