Bought a refurbished good quality HP laser printer today since most of the carts for Ghost are old printers and I didn't fancy a budget printer. We should set up a new topic in the transfer section to post our results and trials.

It will certainly be interesting to see how successful it is - we bought the Sun Angel kit - if one gets it into its sweet spot it works well "printing" white onto garments, but we bought the colour printer too, and that was an utter waste of time and money.

The registration capabilities of the printers is so poor that the colour application is unusable, particularly on fine areas of a design. It's not possible to put the same sheet of paper through the same printer twice and get a better alignment than a 0.5mm offset, let alone through two printers!

Won't be trying mutli-colour myself since the likelihood of the printer aligning the same print is next to zero...even their promo videos show an overlap of white around the edge colour.

Going back to an earlier post when someone said it was about £1 a sheet then I understand now that this may refer to the A&B no-weed papers rather than the multitrans paper which is a lot less.

Yes, a £1 a sheet is about right from Ghost although a lot less than other suppliers I am finding. Who would of thought paper would cost so much and so annoying that people list A & B paper separately as surely you need one of both to actually print onto textile? Would I be right in thinking that perhaps all of these supplier papers probably originate from Forever in Germany anyway?

I also read that you post press with a matt finish paper although some say just a silicone sheet will do.

So, I have a big-up to Yolo who are going to send me some sample sheets of laser transfer paper for dark textiles so I can compare against the samples from Ghost. I then would look to get a sample from Xpres and TMT.

That is when we have the printer and new studio space.

For us then printing onto textiles is very new and I know some of you have years of experience especially with Oki and TMT system I'm sure.

If anyone has any experience though with A&B no-weed papers and wants to share then that would help us and no doubt others in the mean time.

I mentioned earlier that the papers were most likely Forever papers judging by their product names and being German. You can also find the same product names under the Xpres transfer paper range.

Swapping white with black is probably not possible. I know the Oki 711 is programed (colour profil?) to work only with the white. Maybe it would be possible if you could swap the colour profil?

Hi Earl. Yes you can swap out. That is one of their selling points. Basically you put black in your artwork whether or not you have black/white toner in and it will print black or white.

What about setting TRAP? Used to do that when I worked with Litho and Screen

Makes me wonder too. But maybe its because TMT were the only ones doing white and they use their papers and the OKI. Now Forever are in the mix, others are seeing the potential of the white toner.
Next week I will chase up Ghost in Düsseldorf and see if I can get a rep to come and see me.
