Re: Problems sublimating on ceramic tiles

Post by ScotTs »

I've been trying to produce a sub'd image onto ceramic tiles, glazed surface.
I've been working up to 230 degrees for 3 minutes and getting very little transfer and the only thing that sticks to the tile is the paper, I'm getting very little ink transfer.
An ideas on what I need to change and to what?

They are polyester coated sublimation tiles I presume not just normal white glazed tiles.

That's like trying to write on to a car windscreen with a biro.... It aint gunna happen.

You need to buy specially coated tiles with a polyester coating which takes the sublimation ink.

Many thanks ArferMo. I thought that might be the problem when you had asked earlier.
I'll order some and see what happens.

You could use your existing tiles and try a different printing method using hard surface laser transfer papers. Some methods are resistant to scratching once cured.

Thanks GoonerGary. I use inkjet printers and it would not be worth the outlay of a laser printer at this point.
