ok I'll show my age and show all you whipper snappers what you have been missing

in no particular order, as they spring to mind

Letter to Hermione - Bowie - 2 minutes something of perfection
Quadrophenia - the Who - has to be listened to start to finish in one go
The Kick Inside - Kate Bush - skip Wuthering Heights and listen to the rest - work of genius, written by a teenager
Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd - "no one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun" aint that the truth
At Seventeen - Janis Ian - pure teenage angst
The Night - Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons - where did they pull that one from?
The River - Springsteen
Theres A Ghost In My House - R Dean Taylor - first northern soul record I ever heard and its still great
For You & Stay With Me Till Dawn - Judie Tzuke - voice to die for
Adagio for Strings - Samuel Barber - the piece of music I want to hear as I draw my last breath
Creep - Radiohead -
Riders On The Storm - The Doors - god bless Jim Morrison wherever he is
Lay Lady Lay - Bob Dylan - Dylan at his best
Billy Don't Be A Hero - Paper Lace - only joking and just to see if anyone has read this far down the list :o)
All Along The Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix - could that boy ever play guitar
Kites - Simon Dupree and the Big Sound -
Little Wing - Hendrix
You Do Something To Me - Paul Weller
In My Life - The Beatles
Eleanor Rigby - The Beatles
A Lover Sings - Billy Bragg
Since I've Been Loving You - Led Zep - perfection
Kashmir - Led Zep -
Trampled Underfoot - Led Zep
Ten Years Gone - Led Zep
Unfinished Sympathy - Massive Attack
Live With Me - Massive Attack and Terry Callier -
Tainted Love - Soft Cell
I'm Not Going To Miss You - Glen Campbell - listen to this, if it doesn't give you a lump in your throat you have no soul
Hurt - Johnny Cash
The Mercy Seat - Johnny Cash -
The First Time Ever I saw Your Face - Johnny Cash - his voice is just about shot but he nails this - in his mind he has to be singing this to his late wife June
Personal Jesus - Johnny Cash - inspired choice all of his Americana recordings are pretty good
In A Broken Dream - Pyton Lee Jackson - Rod Stewarts greatest track?
I Want You - Elvis Costello
Heaven - Simply Red - Picture Book is just a superb album
Any thing from Five Leaves Left or Bryter Layter - Nick Drake - tortured soul if ever there was one but could he write songs
Closer - Joy Division - Ian Curtis, another tortured soul, just listen to the whole thing and feel his depression
Dummy - the whole album - Portishead
Needle and The Damage Done - Neil Young
I Close My Eyes and Count To Ten - Dusty Springfield
Desperado - Eagles
More Than A Feeling - Boston
Hatful Of Hollow - The Smiths - Morrisey and Johnny Marr you knew it could never last, but while it did.....
Babylons Burning - The Ruts
Bird Of Pray - Fat Boy Slim - I surprise myself sometimes
Tobbaco Road - Steve Earle

There are stacks of other rock and blues tracks I could include but I really need to get on and get something productive done ;o)

Sympathy For The Devil - Rolling Stones - at their best

Ah, someone who's heard of Judie Tzuke! I'm a lifelong fan since seeing her in concert when I was 10! Still sounding great and making great songs.

Arthur, if I had to pick just one from your long list it would have to be Dylan's 'Lay Lady Lay.' Just the deep tone of the first line does it for me, so different to his acoustic stuff, which I also like a lot,

I don't follow different styles of genres of music. Music is what it is, and if it sounds good then it is good. Here's a short, wide-ranging list, from the top of my head -

Spooky Mens Chorale - Crossing The Bar (thinking about this one for my own funeral). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvFNn4a5srk

Free - Mouthful of Grass https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LaJ6fTj5j0E

David Guetta - Titanium ft. Sia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRfuAukYTKg

Isao Tomita - The Great Gate of Kiev and Promenade (Mussorgsky) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SeXF8e14SGU

Groundhogs - Split Part II https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ddg7OXoupA

Matt Monro - Softly As I Leave You - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nx_ktGU3-tQ

Steve Jablonsky - Arrival To Earth (Transformers) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4H0JDomv8ac

Juicy Lucy - Who Do You Love? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YA8MAJt8Fv0

Mr. Big - Green Tinted Sixties Mind (Super guitar tapping!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-H4nvb_wDM

Whatever is on Radio 2...

And before you slate me, I can not stand the Jeremy Vine show and its middle England rhetoric, but I am way to lazy to walk over to the radio and change the station :-)

'Never Mind the Bollocks' by the Sex Pistols is usually the first thing played, loud before the neighbours open up. Followed by a bit of Doris Day.
