Re: Weight of 36 boxed mugs?

A year or 2 ago I found out that what they were advertising as their budget coating was actually Orca. They play down how good they are as they want their Duraglaze to be seen as the industry leading coating and push that. Before this time (few years ago) I found out that the Duraglaze was actually RN coating rebranded. Not a bad thing as RN was regarded as the best, but shows they have been working hard on establishing Duraglaze as a major brand but only they have access to. Not sure if Duraglaze is now different but I have no doubts it is still up there...... but so is Orca. Very little difference. B grade they actually class as a Decorators Mug which is used in volume runs.

Are all of the coatings put onto the exact same ceramic?

If anyone asks me what mug do I prefer to print then for consistently good results it has to be the budget Durham from LTW. It just prints better than any other mug (including their Duraglaze) in my humble opinion.

However I do appreciate that the print is not the only decider. I do think LTW are doing themselves a disservice by calling it a budget mug and stating hand wash only. It would be worth getting some samples and having a go, would be interesting to hear your feedback because I might be missing something :-)
You might have noticed that the Listawood PM1008 budget mug has disappeared from their site. So the closest mug is now the PM1006 A grade Duraglaze which they are selling as the replacement. I ordered several boxes last week. They are fantastic, my new favourite mug.

Have to be honest, I hadn't noticed and the boxes I purchase still have the Budget sticker on the side. It has actually been a bit of a bug bear that they are/were called Budget. The clients don't like it (I have a customer at the moment who is trying to reject 700 mugs on that very basis) and I never understood why they were called that. Surely just call these a mug and call the other one a Premium Mug. Makes more sense to me.

I always rip that sticker off! Only to find where listawood have cut out the previous name. Tell your client that a trainee wrote budget mug rather than wholesale mug on the sticker. Orca are claiming 3000 washes when I came across the manufacturer's site. 1000 more than the 'premium'.

I have used some of them mugs recently when our regular supply options dried up. Massively annoying to have them stickers on, especially as we know the mugs are good. Their budget mug used to have the orca coating but don't know if this is still the case. It seems to be the case that they are developing and pushing their own duraglaze brand as premium. Downgrading other coatings pushes their up. Think we might have had the A grade mugs in....... it was what was called a decorators mug. Can't remember if it was the same. Their mugs are good over all and consistent.

The new budget mug is Duraglaze A grade rather than triple AAA whatever. They should remove the 'RN' code on the box though! hehe

Ha Ha RN seriously?! That's good to know. Are these A grade good enough for retail as interested to buy but not if they have "defects" in as opposed to AAA? Also, anyone get them to pad print on the bottom?

Yes and yes

One customer I have is very very fussy. I purchased a box of every single Durham/Cambridge mug from every supplier I could. They were then all printed with the exact same design and presented to the client. I sat there and watch the client mull over each mug for at least 3 minutes per mug (you try looking at a mug for that long!!!!) eventually they selected the LTS Budget Durham mug as being the best one. The customer felt that the coating inside is the thing that sealed the deal as it was smoother and nicer that any of the others (including LTS Duraglaze).

I pointed out that this is because the coating is different and is not as durable as other coatings. The customer said that it would never be an issue as no one will ever take a mug back after 250 washes with a complaint. It just does not happen (their words not mine).

I have used this mug for a good few years now in retail/touring/promotion environments and all my customers are happy with that mug.

I have also had base printing done which is fine. Some of the text was 6pt so quite small, yet printed fine.
