Re: Problem setting up printer (Ricoh sg3110dn) :(

Hi,

I hope that someone can help me.

I bought a second hand printer last week (four months old), and today I have tried to set it up. First, I put the refillable cartridges in, that are almost filled with ink, with exception to one that's lowish.

I switched the printer on, and a message popped up saying 'low ink', whilst the printer made a funny noise (sounded like it was processing something). Then the message 'low ink' popped up again, followed by the noise, and this happened repeatedly until it then stopped and said 'ready'. But it still says 'low ink' (with exception to the black ink'. I'm not sure why, because aside of the yellow, the other cartridges were pretty full.

I would like to try the printer out, but my computer's cd player is broken, so I'm going to have to download a driver for it. But alas, I'm hitting a brick wall; I looked on Ricoh's website and found what looked like four different downloads. I downloaded the latest version, for Windows 8, but all it has given me a zip file of a dozen or more files. There's no 'installation wizard' for me to follow to download the driver to my computer, so that I can print something.

If anyone can help me, I would really appreciate it. I wish I had all of the time in the world to figure this out for myself, but I'm a busy mum, ontop of working, there never seems to be enough hours in a day .

Thanks,
Sarah.

Hi Sarah,

I'm assuming you bought this for sublimation use.

First off all - Was it set-up with sublimation inks to begin with? If not, you will need to completely flush the old ink out and (IMO) I'd probably just start with a new printer.
If it was already set up with sublimation inks and has not been sitting (switched off) for too long you should be O.K.
If it's been switched for a length of time it could be clogged up.
For future reference - Never switch it off as it has an automatic cleaning/maint' cycle on it which prevents this.

The whirring sounds etc are quite normal if it's cycling and charging the ink, and for first use it may well use 25-30% of the cartridge just to get through and ready, (this is assuming that pipes etc are empty, you won't lose that much ink every cartridge change). So if they were half full they may well be "low" once fully installed. But don't worry too much as even when low they will last for ages.

For drivers - If you're using Sawgrass inks you will need to go to their website and get the relevant drivers (they have lots of documentation and set-up guides).
If you're using a different brand you will most likely need to get the drivers from that manufacturer (not sure as I've only used Sawgrass).

Hope that helps,
John.

Hi John,

Thanks for taking the time to reply, it's much appreciated.

The printer had sublimation inks to begin with. It hasn't been used for a while, at least a couple of months. And the ink is Fotorite, from City Express. I do have an ICC profile, for the printer and inks, and right paper.

I just need to find the driver to install. Sadly so far though, no luck. I'll have a look on CityInkExpress's website and see if they have driver downloads there.

Is this not the driver?
Hi Justin, If you follow that link it leads to this page (in that there are four download options):

None seem to work. All download a zip file, that when unzipped has dozens of files that look like this:
vB_ID:4277
vB_ID:4277

All seem to be readable files, or ones that I can't open. None are like the usual 'installation/setup wizards' I'm used to when downloading drivers .

Ahh :(, I'll have a look and see if I can find the one for windows 7 and see if that works. I'm guessing not, as I have windows 8.

I bought an Epson WF 2510 recently and there isn't driver for windows 8 so I used the 7 driver so Ricoh may be the same.

Apologies if you've already tried them but there is a set of 4 .exe files for win 8 here:
http://support.ricoh.com/bb/html/dr_ut_ ... river-list

Scroll down to bottom of page under "Change OS" you'll see windows 8 as an option.

Please don't apologise for trying to help! It's good of you to take the time to have a look for me - thanks .

Sadly I have tried this, to no avail. I wonder if I'm doing something wrong? I think I'll call Ricoh today to see if they can help me.
