38x38 clam press - advice for buying one

Hi there,

I am looking to buy a flat press for t shirts etc and have been reading through the posts and also researching online. (I already have a ricoh sg3110dn sub printer and a mug press and the ink is about to run out on my printer)

I've decided to go for a 38x38 cm flat/clam press and am looking at the Stahl's make perhaps.

this one I saw someone else mention and they were talking about adkins, so is Studio also Adkins??

I would like your advice and knowledge on the different types of presses ive chosen, or if you have a better idea in mind.

From what I gather you can do t shirts & other types of garments, but could I also do phone cases, coasters etc with these?

Im not sure really. Can you not do anything thick on the flat presses?

You can't press thich items on a clam press only on one where the plates come together parallel.

like a swing away press?

yes, or there are a few that come down parallel. Just stay away from the one that come together with a scissor type action they can't provide an even pressure on thick items.

Does anyone else have any input or advice regarding buying a heat press? Is a clam press a waste of time if I also wanted to do hoodies? TIA

I'd personally avoid clam presses and anything less than A3.

Even some of the more expensive presses, Adkins for example, struggle to print thicker items like acrylic blocks without modification.

Hi, I'm now officially a paid member woo hoo!! what are all the secrets haha.

anyway, maybe now that I get a discount, instead of getting a clam press, what swing away press do you all recommend? I've been looking through the forum a bit and have come across a few, but I think my budget is under £500.

Any ideas?

Well done for paying up. We use the following swingaway which is very solid in build (weighs a tonne), has a fantastic range of depths (thin metal to thick acrylic) and would of expected to pay more:
