Hi, my name is Dean and I have been creating artwork for companies to produce as prints and sublimated products for over 10 years, and now finally I am taking the plunge into Dye Sub myself.

I would like to ask any of you for any help and advice and any tips you may have.

Even though I know bits from my experience in the industry I want to start from the very basic and work up to what i need to make this venture not only profitable but enjoyable for myself.

I recently bought a Ricoh SG-3110DN Printer. Not set it up yet though. (need to know settings/profiles and what ink is best or which ink will do for my start up)

I have a budget of £300 left, I know it's not a lot but what sort of kit ( please list for me if you can help) I can get that will be suitable.

If you have a good look here you will find all the answers but to start with if you have a 3110 do you have the Sawgrass inks for it? If not this is what you need and use the Sawgrass powerdriver. The inks are expensive and will use up a fair bit of your budget but will last for an age. Paying £10 for membership will give you discount from several suppliers which would help you out.

I would suggest you get ALL your setup from a single supplier that is able to train/demonstrate to you.
Go & visit them and get hands on training. They might be a bit more expensive than chineese off ebay, but you will see samples and get properly setup, - so you won't make as many mistakes

For the mug press (this is what I intend to start with) I've seen £40 ones on eBay? Are these any good for novices like myself to learn on? or would you suggest I stay away from anything being sold on eBay?

Thank you Logobear. I shall look into that too, that is a really good thought as I didn't know you could train/ get demonstrations...

Companies I work with who sublimate have mentioned a few of those names too.

SOLID ADVICE, get it from the one place until you are knowledgeable and then you can start experimenting. Doing it the other way will cost you more money and you will have an inferior product.

My personal recommendation for anyone selling to the public is to start with The Magic Touch and then move onto Listawood/Xpres. I just think they are slightly better set up (with more products etc) than the others.

I cannot recommend a day trip the the Magic touch highly enough. their demo room is full of ideas and tec support is only a phone call away.
