Hi there,

Is it easy to install ssl to a website? I have my website up and running now and the guy who did my website wants £600 to install ssl to it. The website runs open cart.

Regards

I have installed them in the past and it was a pain in the ?!?!

Your hosting company need to set things up for you and you'll need a certificate created. I didn't totally understand it and was more luck than judgement I got it right. There is a lot of data protection regs you have to follow... Like it's illegal to store the CCV numbers of people's cards I was told. If I had to set up a cart again, I would use a site to host it for me saving all the hassle.

The man that did my site is also hosting it. So do you think £600 is a lot?

Is that just installation of the certificate, and you have sourced certificate elsewhere, or are they providing the certificate as well?

Which certificate have you gone for, level of encryption, whether it is enhanced, the level of financial protection etc will all impact on price.

I have purchased a ssl certificate so it's just the installation of it.

If he is only installing, and not providing the certificate £600 is well overpriced.

If a hosting company supports 3rd party certs (many dont) i have only know them charge an hour labour,

By any chance does your host provide certificates, and he is over pricing to encourage you to go with him?

£600 is alot to pay. Is that a one time 'lifetime' payment or an annual one? Most SSLs are annual payments. What is the warranty value on this SSL?

To give you an idea, the host I use charge £249 per year for their top of the line SSL, green address bar and $250,000 warranty.

The cheapest one is £39 a year and offers - Secure a single domain with domain validation, 2048-bit Key Encryption, Secure Padlock Icon, $10,000 Warranty, 99.9% Browser Support.

They also install it all for you.

Hiya Drew

Hope you don't mind me asking who do you use to host your site? Think I will have to get someone to have a look at my site as I haven't received one single sale

Hi,

We use Vidahost (vidahost.com). Just seen above you have already purchased an SSL, and they do allow for the installation of 3rd party SSLs as well.

Have a look and speak to them, they have a great customer service team.
