Re: Project fighting cancer - your opinions

Post by LittleBigThing »

Hey guys!
It's been a long time since I wrote something here :)

First of all my intention is NOT to make an advertise with this topic. I just need your help, suggestions, ideas, because this project called "F**k Cancer" is VERY important to me and my friends.
Also I'm sorry if this is not the right place for this thread.

I have a very good friend named Ariel who has a brain cancer. Doctors gave him less than 6 months of live. The problem is, that it was discovered way too late than it should. Even that I always say, that it's never too late, and never say never.
Because I have my own little company LittleBigThing making designs on almost everything, especially garment, when we learned about Ariel's current really bad state, the idea about project "F Cancer" appeared in my head literally in the same second. To make foundation having a website with products promoting "F Cancer". This is the way we want to fight cancer. My target is not only UK, but every country in the world.
Money collected this way will be given to the charity treating cancer (any type of it) organize events to raise more money or to make those fighting cancer dream come true even, if it's only something silly like bungee or parachute jump.

What I'd like to ask you is, what do you think about our project? About our logotype, designs, products, products prices, website, fan page, social media (Facebook, Twitter, Pinteres, Instagram...)? Literally everything.

Do you have any suggestions or ideas we could use? Maybe some new types of products, website modules? Where to advertise this project? Maybe you'd like to help us in some way?

It's quite difficult to ask specific questions, because there are so many of them. Just if you have anything to say about it I will be more than happy to read it and reply.

If you have any questions, please ask.

Our website is: www.fcancer.uk
Our fanpage is: www.facebook.com/fcanceruk

Yes, of course I will be happy for every like you give us :)

Thanks in advance!

Not sure if you've done this but if you plan on making merchandise etc to sell for Charities then you have to ask their permission and explain what it is your doing etc. Not sure if you will have to register as a charity yourself or not?

Hey liannef,

Thank for your reply.

Whose and what permission you are talking about? Logo is made from scratch by me, so I have all rights to it :)
The name itself "F**k Cancer" is not copyrighted, so I can use it without a doubt.
If it's about registering as a charity it is not a mystery as all info can be found on a government website: https://www.gov.uk/setting-up-charity/set-up-a-charity. We will register as a charity once we reach annual income level of £5.000. As we've just started, we don't have to worry about it at this particular moment. But I'm sure we will register as a charity much earlier.

My questions were more focused on the project itself. Legal issues are covered by our lawyer, so I am not worried about that :)

Google is your friend, Google fcancer or fcancer project and other cancer related words and phrases to see what everyone else is doing then see if you have ideas and concepts that aren't being used yet, no point competing against a good cause as it were. You can raise money for charity however you choose though and donate it but keep a record of income and expenditure doing so. If you have skills maybe offer them to clients in return for donating some or all of your service fee to the cause. If you have creative talent in sublimation or garment decoration then ask your suppliers for donation by the way of free or discounted product for being used in a charitable way. Facebook and Twitter along with other social media are good for raising awareness of anything you are doing too.

My only comment is the phrase.

I congratulate you for taking on this project, but personally I would never purchase something to wear that is blatant offensive language. Do not get me wrong, I am certainly no prude and swear like a trooper, but I do not like to offend anyone and so would be concerned about wearing something like this out in public. Strangely I have never had the same issue with the "f**k" expression.

Perhaps focus on more "home" stuff which is probably where I would head to.

That is just my personal opinion and by all means tell me where to go, but I hope it has offered you a different side to what you are doing. Congratulations on what you are doing and I really wish you every success.

these are the F*ck cancer ones I did for my friends team, running the race for life after she fought cancer fro the second time, the family and friends had the
choice of the rude ones, or the not so rude ones, she was called snotface by her mum for years, before they found she had throat cancer, which they think was caused by a wasp bite on her throat years ago.
