Re: Laptop just for printing.

Looking for a bit of advice or knowledge on my current setup.

I do all of my design work on a Mac Mini then print designs from the wifes Windows laptop. She uses the laptop quite a bit for video calling etc and it can sometime be a clash of interests when anything needs printing.

So the options are
  1. Change the setup so I can just print from the Mac
  2. Buy another laptop just for printing (overkill?)
  3. Stay as we are
If I went down the dedicated printing laptop route what would the minimum/decent specs just for printing?

I cant imagine it would be much as all it would need to do is access Dropbox and print.

This is what I'm thinking, small notebook or netbook. Reason I'm asking is just in case there's something I'm missing, I don't use Windows that much nowadays

I got our samsung 2nd hand. Stupidly cheap. It has had an easy life to be fair. I just did a factory reset on it and installed the basics

I bought a new laptop for £200 whilst away on business. It was so slow it was unusable so I popped a 120GB SSD in it. It whizzes along now and I have no issues whatsoever!

SSD does make a huge difference performance wise. Usually eBay or Gumtree throw up plenty of stuff near me but slim pickings at the moment.

Yes, mine was off Gumtree. SSD works that quickly in the laptop it doesn't have time to realise the cpu and memory aren't great!

Solid State Drive, same size as the laptop drive but has no moving parts, hence it's quieter and more importantly in a laptop it generate no heat. Way faster than a 5400rpm drive which most laptops have installed.
