Where am i going wrong here?
Re: Where am i going wrong here?
Getting nowhere, fried the mugs on a japanese grill for 5 minutes, increased pressure and temp but still no joy. Have reverted to redesigning mugs templates that are higher off the base.

I'm also at a loss and I've stopped taking orders for black mugs. Heating the base didn't do anything really, they look slightly better but still not good enough to sell. I can't really afford to keep wasting mugs like this so its easier to just not do them =/
Re: Where am i going wrong here?
Same here Drix. Tried with a flat grill at 200oc for 5 minutes to heat the base (piping hot!). Tightened the press, upped the temp and time but still no luck. On closer inspection of the BMS mug, it begins to curve in at around 5mm from the bottom, you can also see some roughness around the baseline area. I've redesigned my graphics so there is no ink near the bottom of the mug going forward.

Re: Where am i going wrong here?
If it may help then we have found problems with the last three packs of BMS mug paper rather than the mugs. Although we do not print from top-to-bottom on the mugs we are getting issues with areas of the mugs down to either coating issues on the paper or minor creasing in the paper. Also we have found recently bleed issues on the paper so a black line looks bubbly. We did a test on the Xpres Tex-PrintR mug paper and no such issues. We have relied on the BMS mug paper for over 12 months but I do wonder if they have had a very poor batch in over the past few weeks. Currently we have moved over to Tex-PrintR which is very good value with the DSF discount code.

Cheers matey!
The BMS paper is great for sizing but i have had to write off a number of mugs as prints were appearing to be cloudy bang on the centre. I wasn't doing anything different to normal so wasnt sure what to put it down to. Prior to the cut paper I was using Truepix with zero issues (except the bottom printing). Wasn't aware that xpres sold the precut so i will need to look into that.
I am new to sublimation but am quickly finding out that there are other suppliers out there to BMS who offer equally as good (if not better) quality and are cheaper. Overall i am happy with the quality of the. BMS RN. I am sold on the their mugs on the basis that they are "European RN", but i am skeptical. For all we know they could be made in a slave labour warehouse in the middle of an Albanian ghetto? And is RN coating really better than Dino because it's American? I've also got more rewards points on my costa card than in my BMS account.
First 300 mugs are almost done and ready to place a big order. I'm not sure if I want to change mug supplier just yet, but paperwise will definately be trying out the xpres to see if that's where the issue lies.

Re: Where am i going wrong here?
Our own opinion is that RN mugs have proved to be the best time and again (so we use these for specific high end jobs such as gift shops) but we do use other mugs for different jobs. Xpres 10oz mugs are fantastic and we are currently trialling the cheapest 10oz mugs we could find (from Signzworld/ukcutter) for jobs that only need artwork printing either side of the mug and not top to bottom. So far we have had one of these mugs in the office dishwasher for nearly a month now (on every day) and colour is vibrant with no issues. These we intend to use as "event" mugs for clients who want to sell a mug at a venue. The Xpres Text-PrintR paper (sold by others but Xpres the cheapest) needs to be cut down at the sides for 10oz mugs but this isn't too much of an issue. Height wise then it is taller than BMS mug paper so better for top to bottom as well. But ideally we would like to go back to BMS paper but not until quality issue is sorted out (BMS are willing to run some tests for us on metal).

Re: Where am i going wrong here?
I did try some Jet stream paper which someone on here sent me for free and that worked better than the Trupix I've been using for darker colours but the detail wasn't quite as sharp. Still good but not quite as well. I had a whole case of mugs from BMS with the RN coating which actually didn't have the coating on - all the ink came off in the dishwasher even though I'm using sawgrass etc. When I complained, they admitted that it was probably a bad batch of mugs but didn't offer me a refund or anything. I may look at the Xpres mugs when I run out of my current supply.
I've just pressed 9 mugs, 8 came out fine but one had the same fading issue at the bottom....but it wasn't black. It wasn't even a dark colour! The others have printed almost right down to the bottom so I don't understand it =/

Re: Where am i going wrong here?
Good to know! Are these the xpres mugs you are on about? If so then there is a £50 difference over 6 boxes between them and BMS (that's before the xpres premium membership has been added on). I appreciate the BMS are the most expensive for a reason, but for many of my customers a mug is a mug.

Re: Where am i going wrong here?
Drix, i have a design which is made of blue watercolour and hits the bottom every time i print with no issues. When i introduce the darker black designs that's when the problems begin.
