Opinions Epson 7890 v VJ628

I'm getting sample images from Chromaluxe. They now use the 4 colour Epson having previously used a 9890. Supposedly the reproduction is excellent and difficult to distinguish between 4 and 8 colour but I find this hard to believe. On a colourful vector graphic my 3110 is great although it won't compete with a Pro printer. Facial tones. gradients, greys etc. the Ricoh just can't print. I doubt the newer 4 colour printers can either but I wait to stand corrected.

I have to say with pigment you can see a difference but with sublimation not as much heres an example of a print using a T5200 epson i converted recently.

I ran a 7890 in a room at a constant 17-18 degrees C (my studio is underground) humidity about as stable as you can get. Printer 14 months old on Sawgrass inks, daily but not heavy use, then the head went. I have now run more dye through an Epson 1500w then I did through the 7890. So the £200 printer has done more work than the £2000 printer managed. Wished i'd never bought the 7890 piece of junk.

Thems the breaks if you need only a3 plus then a 1500 is more than good enough. I have clients who've has 7890 for years no issues its a game of luck im afraid .

Really? Thems the breaks and game of luck? NO the 7890 is not a reliable printer, such statements are pathetic when addressing a so called commercial printer. I moved out of the market I needed a wide format for because I couldn't trust wide format reliability. My old 7600 did a lot more printing for me and it was old when I bought it.
When a cheap 1500 handles more volume than a 7890, the idea that "thems the breaks, a game of luck" from an engineer is a poor response.

"It's poor from epson, however some of them last!" would have been far more appropriate.

Erm quite rude calling me pathetic. Im afraid in warranty it would be replaced so i presime you got 12 montbs from the machine? . Yes theyre more temperamental than older dx5 machines but it IS a game kf luck using a machine for an ink its not designed for !

I got 14 months out of the machine, and they fail on genuine inks.
It is a game of luck but shouldn't be, progress should improve reliability.

Appreciate the new Surecolour 4 colour Epsons, is it possible to put the smaller 17" models on sublimation, P600 etc? These appear to be 9 colour so I guess this would be the problem? Just asking

Shouldn't be a problem if the 9 colours are readily available in the UK ...
Just looked and it had a matte and photo black - have not read up on it, but if it's like the other pro Epsons, which use either the photo or matte depending on whether you select a photo or matte paper/print type, then the photo black you could just put cleaning fluid in. The only other tricky bit is the light light black, which InkTec make, but InkTec UK will only bring in to order, and don't hold as stock.
Apart from the ink side of things, then the other thing is whether you can get refill carts (only 25ml)/CISS for it, or is there an equivilnt EcoTank/L-series model avaiable?

Inktec no longer stock llk, I have it in my 9880 but not Inktec.

Genuine inks ??? Sawgras inks are NOT genuine epson if you had genuine epson inks epson are a little more amiable when it comes to repair. When you put NON GENUINE ink in a printer you take a risk the waranty from ink manufacturers are worthless you have to prove its the ink that caused the problem. Sometimes it is njt thats very difficult to prove. Yes i knkw a few 9890 7890 printers with problems but i also know many that are not !!
