printer driver and ICC profile issues. Macbook, Illustrator, Photoshop
Re: printer driver and ICC profile issues. Macbook, Illustrator, Photoshop
Hi everyone, I really hope there is someone out there that can help me with my sublimation issues!!! I've spent many hours sat with a coffee (and then wine!!!) sifting through this fabulous forum trying to find some one with similar problems..and answers!!. Here goes...I'll try my best to describe this to you....I have an adkins mugpress, ricoh 3110DN printer, good mugs and paper. My inks aren't sawgrass but not from eBay and have come with recommendation. I've installed the ricoh printer driver and also an ICC colour profile for my inks...this is where everything goes horribly wrong
:(:(:(:(:( When using illustrator and photoshop, under colour management, I add my printer profile and choose 'let illustrator determine colours'. It then gives me the warning to make sure I have disabled the printers colour management in the printer driver box. This apparently should be found at the bottom go my print dialogue box...but it isn't!!! I can't find it anywhere and have no way I can see of disabling the printer driver colour management or indeed changing the speed of my print or the quality. My mugs aren't printing well at all....my colours are rubbish and the image slightly blurry
I've phoned adkins for their advice (180 degrees fr 180 secs), ricoh for theirs (not got back to me yet) and also the company I bought the printer from (struggling to help me as they don't use Macs). I'm no closer and am definitely not enjoying myself...I love learning but feel miserable that I've hit this brick wall that I just can't climb over. CAN ANYONE HELP? Thank you in advance :0 x

I fancy Ricoh will be reticent to help to say the least as you've installed non-OEM inks in the printer. Your profile is either a MAC profile or it isn't. And if the company that supplied it are struggling to help you, I'd suggest it isn't. So it isn't going to work. The you need profiling for both the paper AND the inks you are using. If the ink is gel ink (and you best hope it is) then 180 degrees for 180 seconds is too hot and too long. Go at 170 for 140 at things should improve but until you have the correct ICC profiling it ain't gonna work.
Re: printer driver and ICC profile issues. Macbook, Illustrator, Photoshop
that;s really helpful Scotty, thank you. I'll recontact the company I bought it from. I did that that with Ricoh re inks. The ink is Gel ink. I'll follow your advice re temps and times and get this profile sorted...who knew this would be so complicated!!!!
Re: printer driver and ICC profile issues. Macbook, Illustrator, Photoshop
ps..I'm sure I saw an advert on here for people that create the profiles....any idea where I could find that again? Thanks again
Re: printer driver and ICC profile issues. Macbook, Illustrator, Photoshop
Hi Chris, I also have the same printer and the same issue, and I have the same warning and like you I spent the best part of yesterday trying to figure this one out, spent a whole lot of time on the icc site, I am still trying to work this out as my greens are blue and mostly all dull, if I find the solution I will let you know, but if you find a fix first please let me know, strangely enough if I print with my cannon using dye based inks but with the ricoh icc profile the colours are brilliant, the problem we have is too many settings , i have tried printing from three different software packages using many many different settings. i am also using a mac and non sawgrass sublimation inks, bought mine from cityink with the icc profile, so very similar setup and problem. this is what i am still trying to fix today. hopefully we can both get this fixed. cheers

Hi Ukuwi, sorry to hear you're having similar issues! Do you know if your ICC profile is good for the Mac? Really interesting what Scotty says that my profile probably isn't! Will definitely repost if I get the issue fixed
Re: printer driver and ICC profile issues. Macbook, Illustrator, Photoshop
I was not aware that there was a windows version or a mac versions, not even sure that cityink asked me what os I was using when I sent off my printed page for them to create the icc profile, and after spending literally a whole day reading yesterday never once did anywhere that I read did it mention there being a mac profile or a windows profile, so I presumed that they are the same. well I am still trying to sort this as I write. good luck
Re: printer driver and ICC profile issues. Macbook, Illustrator, Photoshop
me too! I've just left a message with the company who gave me icc profile with inks....will keep you posted
Re: printer driver and ICC profile issues. Macbook, Illustrator, Photoshop
An ICC profile file is a standard and usable on both OSX or Windows OS software - software that is capable of using them that is, which Illustrator and Photoshop is one.
Re: printer driver and ICC profile issues. Macbook, Illustrator, Photoshop
Thank you for the clarification Pisquee...any ideas what my problem is then? I'm going to try a diff temp and timing of mug press but would welcome any more advice x
