Re: Doming Resin
Hi there people, just looking for some advice if possible, I use a 2 part doming resin from MDP Supplies, but have always found it dries really tacky and just never seems to dry 100% somehow, does anybody have and good suppliers for low volume doming resin or is there another way of getting it to dry, tried using uv but not sure it actually works to be honest or maybe the resin wont react to uv light i dont know but can anyone shed any light or any good doming fluid suppliers for low volume stuff
cheers

Don't bother with their online shop (not sure if it even works to be honest), but genuine nice guys, always want to help you, prices very reasonable and have found that their stuff works.

and prices are pretty good, to be honest i am not bothered if they are a little more expensive as the end product has to be right, cheap is not always good...do you use them?
Re: Doming Resin
MDP only sell the semi flex if I remember right, acuflow has semi and rigid, Eddie at acuflow is spot on and will help as much as he can
You dont need UV light for this type of resin it will self level and set on it's own. When you say it wont dry? how long are you leaving it?
I use resin everyday and have done for a few years now, after trying different types, mixing my own 2 parts etc... acuflow is the only place I use now.
Liquid lens is good too but there not cheap! ...

Been using mdp 2:1 ratio but just never seems to dry even after two days...picked a badge up after two days and left a fingerprint in it? Tried heat and UV and just not happy with it but not sure who to try as liquid lenses didn't help too much so acuflow might be getting a few little bits of business I think
Re: Doming Resin
Scrap what ever you using for the UV, it wont help in anyway and you only use heat within 10 minutes of laying down the resin (leave it to long and it will form a skin and look pants when set)
If the resin is not good to touch after say 8-10 hours then it's not mixing correct! What mixing tips are you using white or green?
Steve @ Liquid is hard to track down but has always got back to me, he is a busy man and I guess gets alot of questions etc.. but their loss

Re: Doming Resin
Does UV not help at all? Its the clear white mixing tubes as they only sell those with their 2:1 mix so assumed it was correct as they sell that as a kit too? It sets.... Just not what I want it to set like...it's just a bit tacky, it's hard but after two days could put my finger on it and pick it up? Been printing for twenty years but only just ventured into doming so still learning this bit
Re: Doming Resin
Nope no need for a UV lamp at all with this resin, the only time you will read about UV is when it says someing like "UV resistance" IE it wont yellow under the sun....
They will stay tacky for a few hours but I can dome a set at 11pm (yes I work silly hours lol) and have them bagged and ready to post by 10am
There are alot of factors with the resin, like the ink used, the vinyl/paper used, temp etc....but none of them will stop the resin from setting.
If you try acuflow ask for the green mixers, I rate them better than the clear longer tips
