Brother 5910DW nozzle check problems

Hi all,

Just looking for a bit of advice from any of you Brother users out there. A couple of years ago I made the switch, using Inktec inks, and have had relatively few problems (the odd few blocked nozzles that cleared with a clean) until now.

This is the nozzle check I'm currently getting, and no matter what I do, I don't seem to be able to get it to clear. It's all in the Cyan and Magenta channels where the problems are occurring.

Anyone got any advice on cleaning the heads to improve this?

EDIT: Have tried a few more things but still not having much luck. Thinking it might have to be cleaning fluid and a set of carts for it, but I'll have trouble getting this in Ireland I reckon for a decent price!! Any tips/suggestions greatly appreciated!

Just as a follow up, I finally got back to a full nozzle check, after the whole day cleaning/priming/re-filling/printing colour blocks!

I'm guessing this won't be the last time I have this issue though, so if anybody can recommend a particular brand/supplier of cleaning fluid, and a process to use as part of regular maintenance, it'd be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Anybody ever seen this happen before?!?! Ink leaked all over the work surface, from under the printer. Too many cleans perhaps??

I've contacted Brother support to see if they want to help, but I'd doubt they will as warranty is gone and been using refill carts.

It seems as though it might be. I cleaned it all up and turned it back on to carry out a test. It prints ok but when I do a head clean the ink starts coming from the back right corner of the printer, under where the heads seem to get cleaned. So my guess at this stage is the waste tank is overflowing. I'll wait to see if Brother get back to me before doing anything, but I think I might have to try take it all apart and empty the tank. It's not a user serviceable part from what I can find, so might have to be a DIY job!

So just a follow up to this, for anyone that might come across it themselves.

I decided to have a go myself due to the cost of returning the printer to the UK for Brother to service it.

So I took the printer to pieces, and discovered a hose coming from the waste tank had somehow worked itself lose, so the ink that was meant to go to the waste tank was pouring straight out into the back right corner of the printer!

So...I've reattached the hose and used a small cable tie to secure it, as in true DIY fashion, I lost the original spring that was used to secure it in place. All I'm missing is some duct tape. Cable tie will have to do for now, although I've a feeling I might need to find something better. Anybody got any ideas for this one?

Decided to do another small modification while I had the printer open.

I removed the ink door switch and fed the wires out through where the cartridges go in, so I can just manually activate the switch when I need the printer to think I've put new carts in...no more messing around with that stupid piece of plastic that snapped the first time I tried to use it.

Up til now, I've had to use the plastic hook thingy and wedge a piece of cardboard in whenever I managed to fool it into thinking the door was closed...messy solution as every time somebody touched it, I'd have to redo the whole thing again! With the switch out now, it's much easier to manage!!

Got full nozzle check first time round after reconnecting the hose, so I'm guessing maybe the hose being disconnected was affecting the vacuum in the ink lines or something like that. That's just a guess, but glad it's back working for now anyway...and all at zero cost which is a major bonus.
