Re: 32bit or 64 bit????

Post by arthur.daley »

Hi All

My faithful old Dell Optiplex 745 has finally bitten the dust and a replacement has to be ordered :o(

Question is (possibly a really dim question) whats the deal with 32 and 64 bit versions of Win 7? Will all my old software run in 64 bit? photoshop elements, photoshop CS2, Office 2010, Ricoh/Sawgrass drivers/profiles for 3110 and 7100 printers?

Any help given (in short and simple words) would be much appreciated!

regards

You might indeed find problems with your old software running in 64 bit. The majority of software is made for the 32 bit market! I know from bitter experience from when I used to go out to fix Dell computers only to find that they were trying to put the wrong speed software onto it!

thanks guys

that made things a bit clearer.

However, I still need to find out if my Ricoh printers are going to run in 64 bit?

If it is a Dell computer, go to the Dell support website and see if they have the drivers for the Ricoh. You will in fact be surprised what drivers they have on there!

I must confess that I havent looked on the Dell support site yet but aren't the 3110 and 7100 printers running on a Sawgrass driver for the printers? I would rather doubt that Dell would have a driver for that?

May well be, but unless you look, you will never know!

only issue i have had since my upgrade is some of the top line of corel is hidden when i use it, if i hover the mouse over it is there, apparently this is a common problem with windows 10 and 64bit, i panicked at first, but looked it up on line, and saw it was just one of those things, when i upgrade corel again, hopefully it will disappear
