Re: What cheap printer?

Hi there,

I have just bought a mug heat press and am looking to sub print mugs. I have got the ink and paper etc... I am now looking for a printer. Can I convert an old printer or is it best to go for a new one?

What is the best printer to use please?

Id like to keep it cheap to start off with then I will progress to a decent one.

I see another one instead of doing the sensible thing and reading through the forum, is asking a stupid question!

I suggest next time you look on the forum and read the forum, BEFORE you start typing your question!

Mind you I also thought that the rules were that you were supposed to properly put where you were from instead of just United Kingdom! But it seems I am mistaken there as well!

Bit harsh James for the guys first post?? Whilst I completely agree that reading the forum would have given Dan all the info. he could need I'm sure there are politer ways of saying this! ;-)

An intro would also have been nice but hey ho, sometimes that's the way it goes.

In a nutshell, if you want cheap all good and well, once you've been around the industry for a while you'll realise cheap aint always much good. if a cheap one did the job, they'd be no reason to go for a cheap one. I'll save you searching. Look at the Ricoh 3110 with inks included from one of the main sublimation suppliers. yes you already have cheap ink, throw it away and start with something decent. Further down the line you'll work out how to save money and what can and can't be done cheaply. Save yourself a lot of time and headaches and get the right printer setup now, you'll thank us for it in the long run. The initial outlay really isn't that big for the A4 printer.

Welcome to the forum by the way :-)

LOL James. Think Donald Trump might think you're an ideal candidate. Searching the forum will help but Justin has given sound advice to build from. If you have ink is in cartridges for a particular printer? If not you can always save it for another day or you could just sell it on or take the more risky route and use it but you would need a icc profile, search the forum for more information on these. If you buy as Justin suggests you will get one and support from the supplier too.

As the OP hasn't specified the ink he's bought, it is impossible to judge whether it is worth using or not. He may have got a good deal on pro level ink, or he may have bought junk - both can be got for around the same price.
If he's got decent ink, then it can be used, but no point putting it in a crap printer, in the same way there's no point putting crap ink in a good printer.
In terms of using in an old printer - both our printers were new 14 years ago!
