starting a small shop

[CENTER]hello every one i would like to start my own shop selling t shirts .caps ,mugs etc because ive lost my job money is tight so i want to get it right first go ? could i use the jetpro sofstretch transfer paper as my main stay for t shirts do i need to cut photo out or can i leave it as a sheet or do you know a better paper and for the sublimation work use trupix . Jet Stream F-35 Sublimation paper again do you know a better paper fro mugs and some t shirt printing any advice would help thank you paul

If money is tight I would start from home and build a reputation for yourself first.

approach your local market, they often have incentives for new traders, rent free periods etc, as quin says build your reputation, have a look around for an existing business, that you may be able to use as a "shop window" chat with bridal shops etc, to see if you can offer them an add on service. if money is tight, i would not be putting it in a shop, unless you have lost a job in retail and have years of experience in it

Good advice above, you could also set up an online presence with a good website, or setting up with an online retailer such as Etsy or Not on the Highstreet, there is a number to choose from.

first get logo and name then start facebook page as both are easy and low cost. and find a usp for yourself if you can.

i say practice first.
Learn to print so you avoid unhappy customers. After that approach customers via social media etc.

A shop is a HUGE investment, and I wouldn't advise this being your first choice on making money, unless you have a bullet proof business plan, and have a big redundancy payout or savings behind you, or a partner in a full time and secure job that can cover all costs for the next 5 years.

How about going for a office /industrial work place ..cheaper and spacious right ??.

look around for artist studios to rent, they are often very cheap and put you in a good network of creatives.
Then do craft fairs/car boot/farmers markets etc showing the stuff you have made while practicing, BUT hoping to pick up a hen do / wedding list etc bwher the profit is!
