Re: epson ( I KNOW) problems

Post by Mugshots »

I have renamed my 2 printers left and right as they are both the same model. Since doing this the 2 printer icons have gone from the little task bar box at the bottom of the screen meaning I cant check printer status, run head cleans etc. Anyone know how to get this back please?

Also I know all about the not leaving an Epson without using it horror stories so every day, if a printer isn't used I print off a colourful picture and a black test page. I put both of these on a half part of an A4 piece of paper. every time the "normal ink" one works great. The sublimation one gives me grief every day. On the nozzle check print out there's always loads of lines missing and I have to perform countless head cleans and cart messing to get it somewhere close. And then the same the next day.

surely they cant be that bad? Anyone else having problems this severe?

Has anyone had dodgy carts where they dont let enough ink out or similar causing it to look like a jet problem?

Uhm, well there's 3 potential problems ;-) if it's blocking daily it could indicate air locks or poor ink. I'd personally buy a cheap set of standard/normal ink carts and test through that particular machine. Once I'd established the printer was ok I'd try different refil carts...then i'd ditch it and buy a wide format, lol. Ricoh would be ideal here.

If you are using windows, use system restore-i think that should put things back to how you had it before you made the changes.

If you have Windows 7 or earlier then click 'start' and select 'devices and printers'. This should open the device stage window showing all your devices.

Find your printer (here's where it gets interesting because not all icons behave the same way as far as I recall). I would start with hovering over the icon and right clicking to see if the option to 'pin to taskbar' appears. If it does then select that option. If it does not then try double clicking the printer icon to see if the pin to taskbar option is available once the printer main window opens.

Hopefully that will do the trick - that's about all I can remember for Windows 7.

Win 10 changed everything and you can select which icons appear on the taskbar from the settings window by searching for 'taskbar' and choosing the option from the list.

As for Epson printer heads blocking or drying out I have never had this happen. Have you checked that your refill carts do not still have the vent plugs in place - which would create a partial vacuum as ink is used and stop further ink flow. Printing a full black and full colour image every day is costly in terms of ink so why not just print the Epson head check? It is just a check you are doing after all and the head check will allow you to focus your efforts on a specific colour if anything is revealed. You could do it a couple of times if you feel the need but just think of the ink you will save.

It certainly could be the inks themselves and this forum is full of similar tales particularly with the 'cheap Chinese inks' as they seem to be referred to. Using sublinova inks in an Epson I have not had a single blockage so far.

Good luck
