What Ink and From Where
Re: What Ink and From Where
Hi All,
I am struggling to get my head around the best inks to use, i reckon i have read so much i have confused myself.
Looking at the SG3110 and the norm seems to be Sublijet-R Inks, would that be correct and if so where would be the best place to get a complete set?
As this is a completely whimsical purchase, and as yet will not be used other then for myself i have also considered some of the refillable options that seem to appear all over eBay. However having read everything i can find these look like they will require ICC Profile (would one be required for each new batch of inks ordered?), and the likely hood of receiving the same quality on a second purchase will be few and far between. Does anyone have any experience with these bulk inks, and has anyone had any success with them?
Pete

Re: What Ink and From Where
the refillable option is mainly used for wide format printers i think. If using in an epson printer the heads can block sometimes through lack of use. In my opinion it would be worth buying the sg3110 and the sublijet inks if it your first time doing this sort of think. Although the initial outlay may seem alot in reality it isnt that much more ( printer, ink, carts, icc profile, papers, mugs etc and the wasteage in the setting up phase will be more due due to it being a kit). Worth looking on the suppliers list and using your premium membership for discounts. The suppliers will give you an idea of the best kit for your needs.

Hello, firstly the ricoh 3110 is fantastic, so your choosing a good printer, just use the sublijet-r ink carts there more expensive but save you problems further down the line, it comes with a driver which is useable but theres a guy on the forum called paul who set my icc profiles up for me for next to nothing and i can assure you its worth it, as your new to printing save yourself the hassle, BMS have the ricoh and inks in a set , there good reliable company that i used almost 3 years ago and the printer is still printing like brand new,

Good advice to go for the tried and tested (but significantly more expensive) option of Subli inks. As a premium member remember that you get a great rate with Xpres & Listawood
You can source cheaper inks, some of which will work find in your Ricoh at a fraction of the costs. You'd need a profile making as well but end result is pretty much the same as above. Sawgrass supposedly hold patents that restrict the use of non authorised inks in their printers but it's highly likely the relevant patent has run out so this shoouldn't be an issue.
If you want a quick, reliable route to print go down the Sawgrass route....at least to start with

Many thanks for the advice so far.
Regarding ICC Profiles, how often do these need tweaking? Do cartridges or paper qualities change enough to require this regularly, or once your set your set?

Your ICC profile should be done on the paper you intend to use, so choose your ink and paper now. Once your are set, you're set.PeteO;107534 wrote:Many thanks for the advice so far.

Hi Pete
I recently bought the Ricoh SG3110dn printer with Sublijet R ink and have found it to be excellent on Mugs, Tiles and Glass products both with a flat press and mini 3d vacuum press. I found the following link sorted me out on set up stage and not really needed anything since, I'm producing mugs with full colour photos and pleased with the results, although I had a few initial teething problems as a newbie I have found the advice from this forum invaluable along with practise. Every session now produces better results as I get to know the heat presses better, The one thing I have found though is there is No Exact Science to timings, trial and error along with practice... Hope this helps

so Father Christmas brought me a 3110dn bundled with some paper and an Artech mug press much to my surprise (assume he's been checking my iPad history)
need to order inks, mugs and transfer tape so hoping to place this evening or tomorrow

If it wasn't a sublimation bundle but came with inks be careful and don't put non sublimation inks in.PeteO;107595 wrote:Hi all

Re: What Ink and From Where
Hi Iain,
inks are all standard not for sublimation, real shame as wanted to play
santa might have viewed my iPad, but wasn't 100% sure of what I needed.
thanks for looking out for me though
