Hi guys,

I have got a cheapo chinese press to start me off doing mouse mats and bags etc. Ive watched the youtube vids etc and set temperatures and times accordingly. Upon removing the papers Ive found the heat has had hardly any impact on the ink. I have literally had to almost double the temperature to get anywhere near a good result. The ad for the press shows temperature ranges between 20 and 250 degrees im assuming centigrade. When using the press it goes up to 450? Could this be fahrenheit? As this would answer the question.

Anyone else had this trouble?

That may be the issue but you don't say what other equipment you are using. What Printer, inks, icc profile? Does the press heat evenly over the whole platen

I use an epson wf3010 with generic inks. Have had great results with mugs. Could you explain what an icc profile is please. Unsure about the heat distribution to be honest.

I am sure someone will be along soon to give a better description of what an icc does, but a really basic way of describing an icc is it takes what is on the screen and mixes your inks to get the best match, but you need one made specifically for your ink,paper and printer. I am sure if you do a search for icc profiles there are many threads on the subject.

Are you sure your press settings are not in fahrenheit?

Ah, ok thanks very much. Im going to buy one of the laser temp guns I think. Any point buying a dearer one or will a cheapo be just as good?

no idea about the quality of the temp guns, as I've never used one, but they have been discussed on the forum before if you do a search. As for the temps, when our old mug press was in fahrenheit, I just used Google to convert temps. 180C is 356F if I remember rightly.

No I wouldn't think so. A lot of the Chinese presses come this way as far as I know. Our mug press was in fahrenheit, heat press in celsius - both Chinese presses from a UK supplier.

your press is definitely in farenheit, you may be able to change it to C by combination pressing of the buttons, or copy a conversion chart from the back of a cookery book!
