Hi,

I'm looking at this printer/cutter on eBay. Can anyone tell me if this machine is good/bad.

What are the things to look for when buying this type of machine second hand.

Thanks
Andy

I think that the SP300 is a discontinued model and the 300i is the current model. Confirm with Roland that you can get Roland Care on it which is <£800 per year heads are about £1500 each plus nearly £400 to have fitted without the care package. Make sure you have room for it at over 2m wide plus lots of room all round, good earner if you can get it at the right price and it keeps going.

There is also the problem with drivers as it's now unsupported, windows 2000/XP and old MAC OSx.

Now that's a poor ad!
Ask for some test print pictures, the SP run the DX4 heads made by Epson , it has 2 fitted... these range from £400-£550 each, depending on how confident you are they can be fitted without a tech...
I have just fitted 2 to my VP which runs 4 of the DX heads.... as said these are big machines so make sure you have the space for it to fit width ways and you will need space behind it to,(the 440ml carts are huge and fit in the back) digiprint-supplies is a good place for spares when needed
Get some test prints sent and post them up

@scotty44 how did you code the heads into the motherboard or have you just left it at what the old heads were set too.

Changing the rank number once in service mode is a 2 minute job,
The million dollor question is do you really need to change it!
Dose it really send voltage to the heads/nozzel or is it just a serial number that Epson put on!
Either way I have tried both ways and the heads fire great

Why are they selling it, only 6 feedback and have not ever sold anything since 2008? I may be being a bit skeptical but sounds dodgy, they say they are selling a laminator as well why no photo?
Many thanks
Iain

Equipment used A4 Ricoh printer, HP3085 Heat Press Graphtec cutter, Jarin mug press, CJV 30-60 solvent printer and lots of help from DSF.

Nope it does absolutely nothing just allows epson to track the heads from the firmware downloads nothing else voltage changes are in the heads themselves hence a mutoh head wont work in a std epson. Some have coded heads that dont work at all or will only work for certain widths ie 44inch . If ypu put one in a 64inch machine it will gove a noticible line of mo ink every 44inch. These require a decoder.
