Re: Tax Office GRRRRRRRRRRRR

Post by jennywren »

I tried to phone the the tax office I was on hold for a hour and listen to the same loud tune and vice telling me a adviser would be with me soon, I gave up but if anybody can help me with this query. My son has received a cheque for a tax rebate roughly 500 pounds. Thing is he's not back in this country till the 6 months have passed. I cannot get in touch with him and what I wanted to know can I send the cheque back and ask if they can resend it in June. I have looked on line but cannot find any help. I really don't want to try the tax office again as I can only phone from the shop and I worried about customer trying to get through.

Do you know any of his bank details, even what bank he is with, as the branch may be able to help track down his account details for paying the cheque in?
Are you able to get in touch with him at all to get the account info?

Try using your accountant and ask him to sort it out. They usually have a direct line to someone in the tax office, I know mine does.
Good Luck.

have you ever paid/transferred money into your sons account before ? if the letter has come to your address, then the chances are the bank statements do to. If you have picked the letter up from his address, then presumably his bank statements are in the house somewhere also, even if he does everything online, there should be a record somewhere. if not, photocopy the cheque, write them a letter explaining what has happened, and that you have sent it back to them, and that your son will write to them on his return, to get the cheque re-issued
